So I have been an Iron Maiden fan for a little while now. I first heard the song "Number of the Beast" on Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4 video game for the PS2, and then the same song later on Guitar Hero 3, but it wasn't until I received a copy of Iron Maiden's 4th album "Piece of Mind" (along with...
Gotta go with Dance of Death, a powerful epic. I also love the No Prayer For The Dying song (probably the best song on that album), along with 7th Son.
Even though Nicko is technically the more proficient drummer, I prefer Clive's drum work more myself. For example, I much prefer the Beast over Hammersmith performance of "Hallowed Be Thy Name" over Live After Death, mainly because of the way Clive performed that song.
My favorite opener would be Moonchild. I love the "seven deadly sins" line, the keyboard line following it, and the build-up towards the main part of the song, it's addicting. Sign of the Cross is a very close second.
Even though Bruce sounded better on Raising Hell (since Bruce clearly seemed to be struggling a bit in Live After Death), I would still give my vote for the Live After Death video, it has a stronger overall "live" experience and the audio is better.
The first Maiden album I ever had period is Piece of Mind, which I received as a 15th birthday present (back in 2008, so definitely one of the newer fans here).
However the first Maiden album that I myself purchased would be 7th son of a 7th son.
I have a particular fondness for Death on the Road. I remember watching their performance of "Journeyman" on TV one time as I was flipping through the channels a while back, and all of a sudden Maiden was right there performing this beautiful piece. Breathtaking stuff. <3
I personally feel "Fear is the Key" from Fear of the Dark is an exceptionally underrated Maiden song. A lot of people bash it, or just don't give two twats about its existence, but i think there's so much more that this song offers than people really give it credit for. I really resonate a lot...
I agree with Abas, I personally think "2 Minutes 2 Midnight" is one of Iron Maiden's more overrated songs. It's good, but I don't think it's one of Maiden's absolute best classics.
Don't feel like typing out all the album names, so I'll just put in year:
1980 - Prowler (still good though)
1981 - Another Life (still really enjoy that song nevertheless)
1982 - Run To The Hills (come at me) :p
1983 - Sun and Steel (feels like retread of "The Trooper" to me)
1984 - Losfer...
