    Candlemass

Had my maiden listen of the new album earlier today. First impressions: -Johan Längquist sounds good. His voice has gotten a lot grittier, but there are a few moments that could've taken directly from Epicus (most notably "Bridge of the Blind"). -"Bridge of the Blind" is a fully acoustic track...

    Metallica

Cried pretty much sums up my feelings about Metallica. The only album I really ever feel the urge to listen to from start to finish is Ride the Lightning, otherwise it's just the odd song here and there. I think James peaked vocal-wise on The Black Album - he has definitely lost much of the...

    Symphony X

Really enjoyed reading both @MrKnickerbocker and @LooseCannon 's reviews of Paradise Lost. It was my gateway into Symphony X, and today I still rate it as a phenomenal album, among the all-time best. Sure, it may not be a concept album in the classical sense, but it tackles the themes of the...

BLAZE: The Rankings (Completed... At Last)

For once I think these are pretty accurate rankings - "The Brave" sits fairly close to where I would put it, and "Blood" has grown a bit on me. I can't really complain here.

    Rainbow

Been wanting to get on with this for a while, but apparently starting a new job is very time-consuming. Oh well, here we go. LONG LIVE ROCK 'N' ROLL (1978) Long Live Rock 'N' Roll - Rainbow's third and final album with Dio kicks off with the title track, probably one of their best known...

Or dislikes both "Iron Man" and "Never Before" so much they won't choose either.

BLAZE: The Rankings (Completed... At Last)

The fun thing about this dragging out is that I can look at my comments about each song and sometimes feel completely different. "Already Won" is a decent piece, and I don't remember which score I gave it, but at #30 it feels too high, somehow. Same goes for "What Will Come".

It's definitely for the better. The keyboard intro works wonders on "Tarot Woman" - "Stargazer" doesn't need one.

IRYO :P Frankly, I did consider giving it 10/10, but I still think it's missing just a tiny bit.

    Rainbow

RISING (1976) Tarot Woman - Rainbow's second album kicks off with the one thing I really miss from the debut: some virtuosic keyboard playing! A nice solo by newcomer Tony Carey sets the mood perfectly; it's spacy and mystical, and the guitars that slowly rise with the rest of the band...

    Rainbow

I'm not really familiar with Elf - does that mean that before Rainbow, Dio wasn't fully immersed in his fantasy universe yet? Regarding the album name, I suppose it comes down to Blackmore being the more famous name at that point, in addition to the collaboration coming from his initiative. But...

    Symphony X

Once I'm done with Rainbow I just might do all of Symphony X too. I suppose you could say I'm a "recent albums"-fan; I discovered them through Paradise Lost, which I still regard as one of my all-time favourite albums. Really, it's ridiculously good. I've also listened a fair amount to...

    Rainbow

@Perun and @Mosh, I admit the first post was written rather tongue-in-cheek, and not directed at anyone specific :) I fully understand if the later albums aren't everyone's cup of tea. The suggestion about doing a Rainbow survivor only came after I had decided to go through the full discography...

    Rainbow

"Street of Dreams" is one of my favourites as well, I have a lot of memories tied to that one. And the album itself, Bent Out of Shape, is actually one of the better Rainbow-albums IMO. You'll see when I get there :) I agree completely that Stranger in Us All deserves much more recognition...

RITCHIE BLACKMORE'S RAINBOW (1975) Man on the Silver Mountain - The band's debut album may only bear Ritchie Blackmore's name, but Blackmore himself has said that in hindsight, Ritchie Blackmore and Ronnie James Dio's Rainbow would've been a more accurate title. "Man on the Silver Mountain"...
