"All the Fools Sailed Away" is one of Dio's very best songs. On the other hand, I can't really seem to get into Queensrÿche. "Take Hold of the Flame" is a decent tune, I suppose, but utterly forgettable. Dio.
Saxon is always enjoyable, "Dallas 1 PM" is absolutely no exception. Aside from the...
I'm pretty sure I also nominated Rebellion in Dreamland, but I'm also fairly confident it's gonna win this matchup anyway, so it doesn't matter.
EDIT: Yes, it's on my list.
Time for an update over 4 years later - no ties this time!
1970: Black Sabbath - Paranoid

Right now, in the order they came to mind:
-Black Sabbath
-Deep Purple
-Rainbow

Off the top of my head:
1. Powerslave
2. Phantom of the Opera
3. Aces High
4. The Parchment
5. Flight of Icarus
6. The Writing on the Wall
7. Lord of the Flies
8. Out of the Silent Planet
9. The Clairvoyant
10. The Longest Day
(Re)making lists is as good an excuse as any to show up again, so here goes:

2. Seventh Son of a Seventh Son
3. A Matter of Life and Death
4. The X Factor
5. The Book of Souls
6. Piece of Mind
7. Senjutsu

I don't think I've ever posted a complete album ranking before. Going by a song-by-song average, this is what I came up with:
Powerslave (9.125/10)
Seventh Son of a Seventh Son (9.125/10)
A Matter of Life and Death (8.5/10)
Piece of Mind (8.44/10)
Senjutsu (8.1/10)
The X Factor (8/10)
The Book...
This track.... Wow.
Like a huge, lumbering beast it awakes from slumber, menacingly picking up pace while shedding its skin, revealing its wings underneath before taking off and soaring triumphantly into the sky.
Absolutely brilliant.
The Parchment is my clear favourite, followed by Hell on Earth and the title track tied for second place. No tracks stand out negatively, but Lost in a Lost World is probably the one I listen to the least.
Powerslave is my favourite album ever by any band, so it absolutely gets my vote.
That said, "Seventh Son" probably occupies the #2 spot at that very same list, so I think either album is a worthy winner.
Paranoid. No contest - Bruce, your magnum opus would easily beat both "Heaven and Hell" and "Brave New World", but it doesn't hold a candle to an album that contains "War Pigs" (a candidate for one of the best metal tracks of all time), "Paranoid", "Iron Man", "Electric Funeral", "Planet...
Well, I don't listen much to either band in the first match, but I guess "Reign in Blood" played a part, albeit minor, in the shaping of my music tastes, so my vote goes to Slayer.
"Seventh Son...." is Maiden's second best album overall, only behind "Powerslave". The debut, while an important...
Metallica. I think Part 1 is the better of the two "Keeper"-albums, mostly because I really prefer Hansen's songwriting to Weikath's (which is also why I like Gamma Ray more than Helloween in general), but, despite its flaws, "Metallica" is definitely the superior album. Hetfield's voice has...
Not that it will have any impact on the results, but:
A Matter of Life and Death over Piece of Mind.
Priest over Pantera.
The Book of Souls over Killers.
And, finally, Stormrider over Somewhere in Time.
I can assure you that I don't :) I love all and any Maiden-album, SiT being no...
Absolutely agree. What Nostradamus might lack in excecution, it certainly makes up for in ambition. Firepower is just playing safe. I know which album I'd prefer.
Candlemass over W.A.S.P., easily. Honestly, there wasn't much appealing about the latter.
I would never have imagined voting against an album featuring Ritchie Blackmore at the top of his game, let alone a Rainbow-album, but Symbolic really is Chuck Shuldiner's magnum opus. Amazing songwriting...
Be'lakor has some very good melodies and great riffs, though I've heard much better unclean vocals than this. But really, it doesn't compare to Sabbath at all. The Mob Rules is amazing, and every bit as good an album as Heaven and Hell, in my opinion.
It's been a while since I listened to...
Been away and missed a lot of rounds, but thought I'd chip in on this one, since I'm familiar with most of the albums already.
Running Wild is really at their peak here; Death or Glory is a true classic. Many of its songs, like "Riding the Storm", "Marooned" and "Tortuga Bay" are stables on any...
Amorphis over Opeth. Was tempted to vote for "Under the Red Cloud" in its previous match, and I'm still not keen on Opeth, although I liked this more than "Orchid". I feel like I keep waiting for a big payoff that never quite seems to come. Oh well. As for the vocals, I don't think they're bad...
