    The Running thread

I'll be running with the local running club this week, with an eye to potentially joining them. I don't really love the idea of paying to run when I can do it for free, but I need to expand my social circle - the holidays when I am not teaching can feel a bit isolated - and this felt like the...

JUDAS PRIEST ALBUM RANKING GAME: FINAL ENTRY AND RECAP

Of all the Judas Priest albums, this is the one I might expect my opinion to shift the most on. I have a lot of love for many of the songs here (I don't really mind the musical direction - catchy and cheesy works fine for me) and I don't remember any songs I outwardly hate from this album. I...

JUDAS PRIEST ALBUM RANKING GAME: FINAL ENTRY AND RECAP

I quite like Nostradamus. There's definitely a lot of filler, but nothing I find particularly objectionable (which isn't true of some of the albums yet to be ranked). There are also a few tracks which are worth the price of admission; namely the title track, Visions, and the phenomenal Future of...

I've also took up a pushup routine - specifically this one: https://hundredpushups.com/week1.html I'm only a couple of weeks in now but it is encouraging to hear how quickly results could potentially happen.

I completed parkrun this week in 24:53, the first time I have done a 5K in under 25 minutes since December 2021!

JUDAS PRIEST ALBUM RANKING GAME: FINAL ENTRY AND RECAP

To be honest I'm not sure I'm praising this album more than anyone else - I think I just like most of the other albums less, especially their earlier material. ROS is easily digestible comfort music.

JUDAS PRIEST ALBUM RANKING GAME: FINAL ENTRY AND RECAP

I always thought ROS was a very consistent album - hence the rating - with some fantastic songs, like Valhalla, Damocles, Battle Cry, and Beginning of the End. Only below Painkiller, Screaming for Vengeance, and Defenders of the Faith for me.

JUDAS PRIEST ALBUM RANKING GAME: FINAL ENTRY AND RECAP

The title track, Hard As Iron and Blood Red Skies are what make this album for me. It's uneven (so are most Priest albums, imo) but those three are incredibly strong highlights. The only albums I remember rating higher are the ones I think are incredibly strong from start to finish.

Absolutely rapid - and that 10K PB is surely ready to come down even further once you've recovered given you've just set it in the middle of a longer race.

The Greatest Metal Song Cup - Part II, Round 5, Matches 79-84

Megadeth, Halford, Rush, KISS, Rainbow, Ghost. This round reminded me of how frustrating COB can be; musically they are fantastic but vocally they lose me near instantly.

    Best New Music 2024 edition

A second new song from the upcoming Unleash the Archers album: I'm still not convinced by their story concepts but I am enjoying the increased presence of the bass on this compared to the songs from the previous albums - it feels less thin.

The Greatest Metal Song Cup - Part II, Round 5, Matches 79-84

I come at this from practically the opposite perspective - I'm not really a massive fan of 70s Priest, but BTROD is by far my favourite song of theirs, hence the nomination. I love a good power ballad, and this is up there with the best of them, including an incredible solo and a standout set of...

    Judas Priest

It's a decent album. I don't know how many of the songs have staying power (Crown of Horns certainly does, and The Lodger made a strong starting impression), and lots of the songs blend together a bit, but they're enjoyable enough.

It's a beautiful race, which is why I took almost twice as long as this person - extra sightseeing! :p

    The Running thread

Reading this is all well and good but it is not something I find myself relating to in the slightest. Running is just that - running - and very much separate from the rest. It's exercise, it's necessary and I feel better about myself for having done it, but I would be reticent to attach any...

Thanks! The majority of the race was surprisingly comfortable. I settled reasonably early, and I think the sheer number of runners helped as it stopped me from going too fast off the start. I didn't walk at all during the race! The main struggle came from kilometres 19-20. This is in the town...

Cambridge Half Marathon completed!: I am extremely happy. I gave a predicted time of 2:15.00 when signing up, and my previous race PB was 2:08.50. This was over 3 minutes quicker than that!

    Bruce Dickinson

Had my first listen tonight: - Fingers in the Wounds is an early highlight; - I'm really torn on Eternity Has Failed. The intro, verses, and chorus are all much weaker than the Maiden version for me, but the instrumental section is much better and it doesn't waste nearly as much time with the...

    Now Playing (Video Games)

I missed the DS chat, but I have recently restarted DS1 with an aim of finishing it before the Elden Ring DLC arrives. I've done this a few times before - normal run, SL1, and a couple of other challenges - but this time I'm looking at doing some of the NG+ cycles, which I've never really...
