GREATEST METAL ALBUM CUP - Winner: Iron Maiden - Seventh Son of a Seventh Son!

Oranssi Pazuzu is the most interesting metal band of the last decade. A new album (Mestarin Kynsi) has come out since we put nominations in for this game and it's even better than Varahtelija. Actually, all of their albums are pretty impressive. Clearly this is one of my nominations. For those...

The Number of the Beast cover has more impact when shown in the context of the movie. There is nothing happy about this or the movie, Spun.

GREATEST METAL ALBUM CUP - Winner: Iron Maiden - Seventh Son of a Seventh Son!

First round I missed in a very long time. First round where all four (of what I would have picked) won in possibly the entire game.

GREATEST METAL ALBUM CUP - Winner: Iron Maiden - Seventh Son of a Seventh Son!

This has to be the least metal round yet. I like Led Zeppelin II far better than The Eye but I am voting for it anyway. Why? Because in the rules it says I can vote "for any qualification." My criteria is that I don't vote for albums named with Roman numerals in the title. (Sorry X Factor.)...

THE IRON MAIDEN COVERENDUM: Angel Stage (FINAL!)

I think what makes a successful cover is that an artist is able to make it their own or add something unique to it. Jimi Hendrix's version of All Along The Watch Tower is the perfect example of this. I could hear Lemmy's version of The Trooper in my head even before I listened to it. It sounded...

THE IRON MAIDEN COVERENDUM: Angel Stage (FINAL!)

My first move was to fast-forward to that moment. It's all I needed to hear to give the match-up to Burden of Grief. The Trooper cover was at least interesting and the music was precise. Can't say the same for Wasted Years.

GREATEST METAL ALBUM CUP - Winner: Iron Maiden - Seventh Son of a Seventh Son!

Because I like maybe one album a round and it's immediately kicked out. If I like 2 albums in a round they end up against one another. And now I am starting to hope Wish You Were Here wins the whole damn thing.

I am starting to think, that maybe I don't really like metal?

GREATEST METAL ALBUM CUP - Winner: Iron Maiden - Seventh Son of a Seventh Son!

RIP Riley Gale, but Power Trip must live on! The Death / Atlantean Kodex are pretty opposite in styles. To each their own. Megadeth also continues their dominating run up the leagues. I did like Between the Buried and me about 10x more than I expected to, but it wasn't enough to overcome a...

    BEST BAND EVER: Results!

I once watched in awe as Dave Lombardo--a drummer--literally took over a Suicidal Tendencies show. I have never seen a drummer just utterly dominate a space like that.

GREATEST METAL ALBUM CUP - Winner: Iron Maiden - Seventh Son of a Seventh Son!

Just a devastating loss. I think it was Mosh who referred to that album as as close to an instant classic that is in this game. It truly is, and this is a very big loss for metal and humanity in general. I was lucky enough to see them a couple of times and due to Riley's insistence I went into a...

GREATEST METAL ALBUM CUP - Winner: Iron Maiden - Seventh Son of a Seventh Son!

This is a great album. Glad you nominated it. It's my favorite YM album overall, and I think your point about actually writing songs with vocals in mind has something to do with it. What makes this album so great is that you seem to favor the songs I like least, which suggests there is a ton a...

GREATEST METAL ALBUM CUP - Winner: Iron Maiden - Seventh Son of a Seventh Son!

Like Blood Incantation, Oranssi Pazuzu, Inter Arma, Blut Aus Nord, etc. not to mention some not as heavy bands like Dream Theatre and Queensryche. They may not be as influential as Led Zeppelin, but they do cast a pretty large shadow. That being said, most of the influence comes from the earlier...
