Do you have specific and reliable info on the way he wrote the songs? I'd be really interested. Btw, though, the songs were written and recorded before the covid crisis and the lockdowns.
I fully agree. Hellfest don't always negotiate an exclusivity clause (Maiden played Arras just a days after Hellfest in 2014), butthere would be no arena gig for sure.
I don't think Steve writes everything in the studio. He has rough ideas, melodies, whole passages written through the years, and it's in the studio that he patches them together (or with others's ideas) to create proper songs.
Those guys have completely lost it. Berserker was boring, Jomsviking was not really better. I think this has something to do with their declared ambition to fill stadiums. All those so-called anthems can be ridiculous.
I chanced upon a Be'lakor a few months ago, and I've since gone through all their discography. Some songs may be too long and some parts repeated too much, but we all know here ths isn't enough to ruin a song.
A few months ago, I've chanced upon a Be'lakor album, and I've gone since through all their discography. I can't believe how good they are. Some songs may be too long, and some parts repeated too much, but we all know here that this can't ruin a song.
They used to be chosen by Steve and Bruce, with an eye from Rod. After Bruce's cancer, Steve decided that it was fair to let him chose the songs he wanted/could sing. Steve has explicitly told that in interviews before and during the 2016 tour.
In recent interviews (say, the last 5 years), Smith seems to try to reevaluate his role in the band. He talks more about himself, about his songwirting. It seems to me he wants to highlight his importance in the band's dynamics.
