The MAIDEN Years: 2018/19/20/21/22/ad infinitum (Rock in Rio and Nights of the Dead)

I assume most people already know this, but for those who don’t, that is (almost) a direct quote from Bruce: I still kinda agree — you CAN, but that doesn’t always mean it’s a good idea.

    USA Politics

That might help ameliorate the massive tent villages and vagrants shitting in the streets in LA or SF. Can't hurt. I know, I know, the 'broken windows' theory of policing has come under fire in some quarters, and it probably isn't a panacea that fixes everything, but I am also not convinced it...

The MAIDEN Years: 2018/19/20/21/22/ad infinitum (Rock in Rio and Nights of the Dead)

That would be cool, but alas, no. I did get to see the World Slavery Tour in person at the age of 14 or so, it was my first real rock concert. (Not bad for starters!) I grew up in Kansas, so I saw the show in Kansas City, not Long Beach. Didn't move to L.A. until I was an adult.

The MAIDEN Years: 2018/19/20/21/22/ad infinitum (Rock in Rio and Nights of the Dead)

Powerslave is the perfect Iron Maiden album. I disagree with Mosh that this isn't a step up from Piece of Mind, which absolutely had filler on the back end, whereas I will fight anyone who says Powerslave contains "filler" (it doesn't). I do agree that the guitar work here is the highlight...

I always type two spaces, and then when I hit the "Post reply" button, this website's algorithm eliminates the second space. You meddling kids! Anyway, back to Maiden talk.

And in the U.S. That was what I learned: two spaces. I remember having to look for this when cite-checking law review articles while in school. When I was a junior associate, that got drilled into me too. Evidently that changed along the way, while I got old. I recently brought this up...

When you write something formal (i.e., not a text, Tweet or other social media post), how many spaces do you use between the period at the end one sentence and the first letter of the next sentence? This website autocorrects to one space, and there are publications that say one space is proper...

The MAIDEN Years: 2018/19/20/21/22/ad infinitum (Rock in Rio and Nights of the Dead)

It is also the only live recording of Hallowed that is played at the correct tempo(s). By Live After Death, the slow beginning had already become slower and the fast part had already become faster. Nowadays it has gotten totally ridiculous, resulting in almost a different song altogether. For...

What else do we listen to?

    @SinisterMinisterX is back?!?!?!

What else do we listen to?

No long essay, but in addition to Maiden, my favorite artists are Queen, Black Sabbath, Metallica (first five albums), Beatles, Rolling Stones, Rainbow, Replacements, The Clash, and Rush. Newer artists I like: Kvelertak, Baroness, Wolf Alice, Chvrches, Power Trip, and Ghost.

Van Halen or Guns N' Roses debut?

The Cars. But between these two I go with VH.

    Now Playing (Video Games)

I have had this experience in most RPGs I have played too. Still, I liked the Witcher III. No game has ever topped GTAV for me, though.

    Senjutsu - 3rd September 2021

My 5.1-->2.0 downmix of Dance of Death was my go-to version for a long time. Now it's neck-and-neck with the vinyl reissue from a couple years ago. I didn't mess with it, just used Handbrake's default algorithm to rip the DVD-Audio, as I recall. Sounds good, but it literally is a remix --...

New Single - The Writing on the Wall

My $0.02: I really like what Adrian is doing here, cool riffs and awesome solo. Yes, it's different, and that's great. At this point he may be the MVP of the band. Caveman's production is still annoyingly muddy, albeit perhaps less than usual. I can hear some separation between the guitars...

Any of the old lot still here?

Welcome back @Real World! Should be busy around here with the anticipated/hoped-for album announcement next week.

Another pointless thread until we get real news : what two-album gap is the most impressive, stylistically speaking?

The X Factor and Brave New World. Adding Bruce and Adrian makes a BIG difference. For much the same reason, you could also go with the debut to Number of the Beast. But the upgrade from Di'Anno to Bruce is not as huge as the upgrade from Blaze to Bruce.

GREATEST METAL ALBUM CUP - Winner: Iron Maiden - Seventh Son of a Seventh Son!

I'd like to take some pride in this, but I think it really just means my tastes are pretty mainstream.

    Official MLB baseball thread.

That looked like a Little League play. By the way, the NL West (and specifically California) has the three best teams/records in the Major Leagues. Go Dodgers.

Which album best represents Maiden as a whole?

Definitely NOT Seventh Son -- the lush production and heavy emphasis on synths really only show up on two out of the sixteen total studio albums. For the early era, I would say either Number of the Beast or Piece of Mind. They sound a bit different production-wise, but they have it all: the...
