The things is, I actually really love the 2 Weiki wrote for the newest album: Burning Sun and Years, really great power metal songs. One reason they're great is because he's not trying to stick in something different, like a Deep Purple style. Do You Know What You're Fighting For should have...
I think Helloween is in really great shape right now. Iv been reading articles and interviews with Helloween, and I find it surprising how much Sascha Gerstner doesn't seem to care about power metal. He was never a fan of them before joining, and yes he was in Freedom Call but didn't write for...
Who here thinks the original Keepers line-up of Helloween should reunite?
I'd like to see it done as a one of live show. I'm a bigger fan of Deris-era Helloween, and reuniting that line-up would require Deris to leave. I also don't see it happening. But maybe, just maybe, that line-up will...
No Prayer is a great album IMO.
Seems the way they write now, and the type of songs they write now, are very very different from the earlier stuff. Except the longer 'epic' stuff.
I bet if Bruce sang on XFactor or VirtualXI there would be many people saying they're amazing.
Wow, cool thread. I love Edguy and the main influence I hear in their music I would say must come from Helloween. I don't recognize much Maiden or Priest in Hellfire Club like so many say. Their newer albums though don't seem to have the same influence of their older stuff. Mandrake at times...
Despite being german, the best Bruce replacement would have been Michael Kiske.
Any fans of Edguy here? I love Mandrake, it has such a classic power metal sound to it, and is Tobias Sammets best vocal performance. Trying to sound like Kiske resulted in a top notch performance.
Many don't...
Like I said, I think Wasted Years has some Power Metal elements. I'm sure they know what Power Metal is, so it's possible, very possible, that when the song was written Nicko leaned over and said, 'ey steve, daan't this sound loike that power metal?
All I'm saying is, Wasted Years sounds IMHO the closest thing to power metal they've ever done. I realize these guys are most likely not thinking of 'genre' when they write music. They really shouldn't be put into a subgenre. I just think it's interesting to so many bands, like a lot of power...
Somewhere In Time is quite an album. Fear of The Dark is just simply a boring album. But these days, I'm confident we'll never get another like FoTD, and that's great! Nowadays their music progressive way beyond garbage like FoTD.
Like, when listening to FF, some songs have quite a few solos (or 'mini solos';). I hear a few different guitar sounds, so i assume some songs have 2 of them doing solos at different times, even all three. It's quite spectacular. One of them, like on the last few albums, has a really...
I'd like to see maidens next album have some Power Metal elements. Other then Wasted Years, they've never done power metal, but have done some power metal-ish stuff like, as I just said, Wasted Years.
Yet Maiden is a huge influence on the genre. 98percent of popular power metal bands will cite...
When listening to the albums BNW up to the present, I'm really impressed with the guitar work, especially on the most recent two. I just wish I knew who was playing what. Iv always considered Adrian my favorite, partly because he has writing credits on some of my favorite songs. But I can't...
AMOLAD is for sure the best, or tied for the best, Maiden album. With BNW.
But FF is really impressing me now. Star blind? Amazing. The solos are really awesome. And honestly, Wild Wind Blows may be the most beautiful thing Harris has ever written.
With AMOLAD and now FF, I'm very impressed...
Is AC/DC considered a Metal band? I'v always thought of them more as a hard rock band.
Tool is a metal band. Evertime they release a new album it hits #1 and does amazing sales.
Also a perfect circle, if you consider them a metal band. They're newest single is very popular and is on the radio...
That's crazy. They're not the biggest metal band right now. I wish, and they are big, and IMO doing their best work right now. But no. I'd say Metallica is ;p It's true.
I'm expecting a big Judas Priest comeback. They're gonna surprise people with an amazing album and be HUGE!!!
Well I'm not even certain the the definition of "Progressive" is. People have different understandings of the term. I'm thinking more 'progressive', not 'prog'. But that's a whole other argument ;p
Can I Play With Madness is such a great song. Has a different sound from the guys.
I feel the last 4 or 5 albums (even the Blaze ones) are the best things Maiden have done. I feel like since Bruce came back, but mostly on the most recent 2, they have been doing what they've always wanted to do but maybe couldn't due to certain restrictions etc. On FF and AMOLAD they just let...
