    7th Son of a 7th Son

I was just listening to the album yesterday. It was the first time I heard the full album from start to finish. There were even a couple songs I hadn't even heard. Moonchild was really cool. I know people list it, or used to list 7th Son as Maiden's 'progressive' album. At the time of it's...

Why A Matter Of Life and Death is Iron Maidens best album

I really don't like the idea of music about war. It's not a theme I'm interested in at all. Yet, AMOLAD is my 2nd favorite Maiden album. I'm not exactly sure what that means about me... I just think they've done the way things way too many times. And the whole 'epic' type thing they've done...

Why A Matter Of Life and Death is Iron Maidens best album

Yea since BNW the songwriting has been just absolutely the best it's been. But I will add that I wish they would stay away from writing songs related to war or historical events. I'd like to see more lyrics that are relateable. The theme of the first track on FF was kinda cool though. I love...

    Dream Theater

Bruce Dickinson is a big fan of DT. I remember a quote where he raves about Train of Thought.

Why A Matter Of Life and Death is Iron Maidens best album

I also think it may be Maiden's best album. Well, actually AMOLAD and BNW. AMOLAD sounds very much like an Iron Maiden album. But at the same time it sounds and feels very fresh. It feels like there were no restrictions on that album. The songs flow so well, individually and as a whole album. I...

    Helloween & Gamma Ray

Well I'm not surprised by the general response to Unarmed. Sometimes it still fells like they're recovering from Chameleon; I don't expect many fans would like Unarmed. And i said they're last 3 (Gambling, Sinners, Hell) are great. Gambling is the most different, and is most in the style of...

    Helloween & Gamma Ray

I think Helloween is great because they stand out from all the other power metal bands out there. Ever listen to the Unarmed album? It's not metal, but i like it a lot. It's for Helloween fans that don't only listen to heavy metal. They've been on a roll lately. From Gambling with the devil...

    Helloween & Gamma Ray

Did someone else sing for Gamma Ray at first? Like on an album? I think his name was Ralph, who I read tried hard to replace Halford in Priest. I can't listen to Walls of Jericho because of his vocals. I'm sure he's gotten better, but I just dont dig his voice. And i don't think he should be...

    Helloween & Gamma Ray

I love Helloween. But I'm not very fond of Gamma Ray. Hansens vocals are bad, for starters. Helloween on the other hand is just better. They have more variety in their music. They aren't afraid to take chances. I just with they had continued in the direction of The Dark Ride.

    Blind Guardian

I'v listened a bit to Night At The Opera, and I actually do really like some of the songs I'v heard. I'v also been listening to Masterplans album 'Time To be King', which i didn't like at first. It's growing on me a bit, but I'v noticed there is some of a fantasy feeling to a lot of the lyrics...

    Blind Guardian

I don't really think all power metal has the fantasy element. But i think there are a lot of people who do associate this with power metal. Actually i would say people think of European power metal bands as having the fantasy style. Like i said i watched Metal Evolution about Power Metal. They...

    Blind Guardian

I know Dio was really the originator of this fantasy style. I was watching the episode of Metal Evolution about Power Metal. I found it interesting how they talked about Helloween. Made me think of how all these bands that are influenced, or said to be influenced and the successors to Helloween...

    Blind Guardian

I love Blind Guardians sound. The singer has a great voice and lots of talent. The thing that prevents me from really getting into them is the whole fantasy thing. I realize that is a key factor in who they are, but i still don't like it. I do have a lot of respect for them. In a way they're the...

Lord of Light and other books

So is the song Lord of Light at all based on or inspired by the novel of the same name by Roger Zelazny? Because the lyrics could work that way. I like to think it is based on the novel, it makes the song so much better and powerful in my mind ;p I know Maiden has a lot of songs based on works...
