    Best New Music 2024 edition

Before I review my #1 of the year here are some awards regarding other 2024 releases: Positive side I've got: The "Biggest grower" award goes to my number 1 record of the year: I will reveal it soon but all I've got to say is that the first time I listened to it I merely liked it and by...

    2) Ou - Frailty Hailing from Beijing, this Cino-American venture is arguably the first Chinese metal band to get international praise. Pulling a deal with a well-known western label - InsideOut records - sure helped a lot, but in all honesty these guys are truly something. Formed by Anthony...

    3) Devin Townsend - Powernerd Being a huge Dev fan, I can be a bit demanding when it comes to his releases. I do so since albums like Infinity, Ocean Machine, Terria, Empath or even Physicist and Epicloud (not to mention his work in SYL) were literal windows that opened my mind to a...

When did [insert band here] lose their spark for you?

Ah... and there's In Flames, of course. Yet unlike many old school fans I liked their 2000's run, I even think half of "A Sense Of Purpose" is pretty good. On the other hand, what followed was IMO a spree of four of the feeblest and "WTF is this?" records coming from a band I liked. Fortunately...

When did [insert band here] lose their spark for you?

Yup, BSSM is my fav too. And is one of those overplayed as hell records that still sound stellar for the millionth time.

When did [insert band here] lose their spark for you?

Bingo! WASP is another band that fell off a cliff for me. IMO they're a band that was a complete letdown from a certain point onward. IMO their first three records are OK (some amazing tracks but also some unbelievably cringe stuff). Yet, unlike most WASP fans, I think the band hit its peak...

When did [insert band here] lose their spark for you?

To me, RHCP had three cool first records that mixed punk and funk vibes in an uncompromising tasty fashion. Then two monster records followed, in Mother's Milk and BSSM. One Hot Minute, despite not being that good IMO was a bit different and still had some cool tracks. After that, I can count by...

When did [insert band here] lose their spark for you?

Used to be a huge Rammstein fan since their first album. Mutter started to rub me the wrong way but still liked some songs. Same with Reise Reise. Then they completely lost me from that point onward. A complete nosedive and a huge downfall in my book.

Hope I won't forget anything... here are the first 7 out of 10 (top ones on a next post). No order in particular: African Imperial Wizard - Mbuya Nehanda: Just listened to this one a couple of days ago and HOLY FUCK! To say this stuff blew my mind is a gross understatement. I knew the Angolan...

    Favorite Album From Each Year

Monster record. Their last one not so much. Still liked it though.

    Bruce Dickinson

Just passing by to confirm this: yup, I still haven't got tired of TMP. More: the easy listening and straight forward nature of the record allows me to get back to it several times and enjoy it almost like it was the first time I listened to it. Is it perfect? No. Is it a majestic masterpiece...

    Nicko McBrain retires

Yeah, sure. My bad. What's important is that Nicko is still Maiden's studio drummer.

    Nicko McBrain retires

"He's not leaving the band, he's just not playing with us anymore." NICE!

    Nicko McBrain retires

Yeah, it was expected and a long-deserved retirement. Amazing musician and great dude. Nonetheless I hope he continues to be THE Maiden drummer if the band decides to record a new studio full length (like Glenn on Priest). Many thanks for all the years of devotion.

    Bruce's Singing

Just to be old school for old school's sake. Bah!
  18. karljant

    Replacing Nicko?

I really don't know... they could do the same as Priest did with Glenn. And to be fair IMO Priest is delivering big time... jaw dropping albums and live performances. Yet, the way I see things, the last word must always be Nicko's. Then what the band would do should be conditioned by that. And...

    Bruce's Singing

His most recent signing reveals more technical and is objectively more consistent. 2000 was the most incredible Bruce signing session. I think he had calligraphy lessons back then. :D

    Bruce's Singing

IMO Bruce sounded great in 2010 overall. Now, 2015/16 is when I think his voice started to dip. Perhaps due to chemo. To a point that he sounded way better to me during The Future Past Tour than on The Book Of Souls Tour or Legacy Of The Beast (not to mention the solo tour where his voice is...
