I've now dug deeper into my Garmin settings and the above is indeed exactly what was happening - it uses % of Max HR as a default, but there are options to change it to % of HRR (heart rate reserve, aka the effort above) and another. I've now changed that setting and entered in the average...
Thanks!
I've done a little bit of reading into the matter and I think I know what has happened. The heart zones on my watch are as follows:
Zone 1: 100 - 120 bpm (50-60% of max HR)
Zone 2: 120 - 140 bpm (60-70% of max HR)
and so on. However, the 50-60% should not be of the max HR: it should...
I don't remember but I do know that the heart zones on my watch changed after detecting a higher max heart rate than it had estimated during one run.
What value would you be expecting for a 29 year old male?
The new Amaranthe album - The Catalyst - just released. It's pretty much exactly what you'd expect from an Amaranthe album, for better or worse, but I tend to enjoy their specific brand of absurdity so a thumbs up from me.
This makes me wonder if I'm reading my Garmin correctly because I'd have expected your zone 2 to be lower than mine given relative fitness levels! 120 - 139 is the second tier on my Garmin after "warm-up", showing up as "easy" in blue. Should I be reading the next level (140-159, "aerobic") instead?
For sure but it wasn't really a choice between them - I just didn't monitor the pace so well because it felt good during the first half.
I still suck at heart rate running. My Garmin zone 2 is 120-140bpm, which I cannot maintain unless I'm at a really uncomfortably low pace (like 8:00/km). I...
I did my last long run prior to the Cambridge Half Marathon this week. 15.4km at a 5:59 /km pace. I had planned it to be longer, but I had set out at a faster pace than I plan to run it (I have entered for a 2:15 marathon, which is a 6:24 /km pace).
Now onto the taper! I really want to finish...
An unexpected surprise!
I like the song. I felt that the keyboards and so forth on Abyss really suited them, and this feels like a progression of that.
The one thing I'm not enthused about is the fact it's another concept album. The previous two were decent enough pieces of music but I don't...
Bodies is good fun as a standalone song, whereas I wouldn't listen to the Queensryche song outside of the album.
Enter Sandman is (for me) easily the best song Metallica ever made and one of the frontrunners of the competition.
Gates of Babylon; it's not my favourite Rainbow track but it's...
I usually hate death metal but Amon Amarth is an exception and especially Twilight of the Thunder God.
Blackbird is a completely mediocre song that doesn't deserve the worship it gets... but it's better than Pantera.
I don't have strong opinions on either song in the third round, but I like...
The first half of Dark Souls is a masterclass in world and level design. I'm a huge fan of DS3 and ER too, but neither of them manage to come close to how well made everything pre-Anor Londo is, in my opinion.
I've voted for Painkiller (which is one of my favourite albums of all time), but I am largely ambivalent towards Metallica anyway, so I don't think I have any meaningful comparisons to draw between the two.
The park is flooded at the minute (and has been very muddy for a while) so most of my long runs are just jogging to a nearby town and back alongside the road. :p
This is easier said than done; I can just about do a 5K in zone 2 (120-140 according to my garmin) if I drop my pace to nearly 8:00/km but even then I live on a hill and my heart rate is all over the place because of it.
