No one can really say that Dave was about to say specifically Paul Cairns for sure, for now that can only be speculated. It's just looks like he was about to say another name (or possibly more). All this really proves along with the other evidence and eye witness accounts is to keep an open mind...
I'm watching The Early Days DVD right now and when Dave is naming off the Soundhouse Tapes lineup he seems to get cut off just before he names a 5th person. "Paul, myself, Steve, Doug,....."
As mentioned in the other thread "Mad Mac" wouldn't do anything live and was asked to leave on The Early Years DVD. But do they say he was part of the Soundhouse Tapes sessions? I'll have to re-watch it.
Ok, so Davey wasn't working, maybe he was held up at some bird's house. Who knows, or it never happened at all. I'm guessing the general opinion is that this guy is just BSing? Or "missremembers" ?
Paul Cairns could have just been a guy that was hanging around the studio for whatever reason, and they used him at times that Dave was working or couldn't make it for whatever reason. This kind of stuff happens all the time. The clock was ticking and they just needed to get something on tape...
I'm guessing if anyone were to want secrets of that time period, Paul Di'Anno wouldn't have a problem giving them up if they were to ask him. But then again his credibility would be scrutinized.

I wonder if the lack of footage from that tour has given Steve a complex and is the reason why we pretty much get a live release of every tour nowadays. I have no problem with it, I enjoy them all and no one is forcing anyone to buy them.
Yes, I've also heard that Bruce didn't want to be involved if Adrian wasn't, which is probably why it was easily agreed upon.
Edit: Mosh beat me to it.
If I remember correctly all six of them (not Blaze) along with management sat down and talked about it over a pint. But I'm sure there was a one on one meeting between Steve and Bruce before that. Also the one that needed the most convincing was Nicko because he felt and hurt and betrayed by...
Well he was managing both bands, so it wasn't really hard to get the whole thing to come together. All Bruce wanted (or one of the things) was for Adrian to be included, and Steve easily agreed to that.
I'm pretty sure it was Rod Smallwood who really got the ball rolling on that because of the success Bruce and Adrian were having and lack there of that Maiden was having. Plus Bruce was embracing that style of metal again, he and H were writing that style again so it only made sense for them to...
