    The Red And The Black

It's a fantastic cover. I love listening to it. This is a great song, sounds great when Maiden do it, and sounds great when Steven Battelle does it.

In NZ there was a distribution problem. I pre-ordered my album and it came three weeks late. I believe this impacted how they count album sales.

    Hell On Earth

I've been watching this guy's reviews of Maiden for quite a while now. He has perfect pitch and appears to have a great grasp of music theory. He calls out that most Maiden is in Em and uses the same four chord progression. I find it quite amazing to watch him, he plays piano along with...

PS: not directed at Donner specifically, but at all people that complain about length of songs. Can someone please tell me what the ideal song length is? What length is terrific and should be cheered and applauded? What length is borderline OK? And what length is wholeheartedly not acceptable...

They were not only criticising the production, but also the editing the tightness of the playing, the construction of the songs, the length of the songs, the tempo of the songs, the intent of the band to play for themselves rather that to please an audience, the self plagiarism. All of these...

Top 10 Albums by The Big Four

Of all those band I don't like Slayer, they just sound like noise to me. Especially from Reign in Blood onwards. But I think Metallica is the least deserving in the Big 4 of thrash especially since they haven't done any thrash albums in the last 30 years. AJFA was their last thrash album.

What else do we listen to?

Night of the Long Knives and Exceptional are my favs of theirs. It was terrific to see Kiske finally doing great music again. I wasn't too excited about Helloween having three singers, but after listening to the latest Helloween album, I can't criticise them, Such a great album.

    SEPULTURA

I used to be super excited about Sepultura. They were amazing. I was still excited even though Max left the band, then I bought Against, listened to it once and never bothered to reach for it again. I then discovered Soulfly I have taken a look from time to time at new Sepultura songs, but...

Well, since we are all getting back to this topic of Symphonic Metal. I guess my original point wasn't to say that Nightwish were THE only band to invent symphonic metal. Like Maiden, they were at the forefront of a coming new, promising and exciting subgenre and they have carried it right...

    Hell On Earth

Personally, since I like this song so very much the long intro is good for me because it comes with lots of anticipation of what is yet to come. But, if you just want to get right into the song, there are easy ways to strip these intros and outros. Easily done with iTunes. I typically strip off...

    The Parchment

I love TRATB, my fav Maiden song of all time. I like WTWWB but it isn't a go to song. The Parchment is my second fav from this album. I especially love it when Bruce does the Arabian singing bit at the 9.22 mark.

I watched a react youtube clip of a guy that's really good at music theory. He loved it, didn't consider it a snoozefest at all. Perhaps that means it's not pretentious??? Maiden's epics on Senjutsu were trying to be grand, massive, whatever. Maybe they are pretentious. Hey, maybe if people...

That's the bonus disk Tuomos has an interest in that sort of stuff. I don't listen to the bonus disk, its not my type of music. But I still fail to see your point. If a person is interested in that kind of music and releases it, how is that pretentious?

I didn't mean to drag out pages of this thread about Nightwish. I just made a comment and got some very silly responses which I've been trying to address. Calling them a Eurovision band is factually lying and quite frankly just trolling, calling them a club band is factually lying and trolling...

How can an album be pretentious? "attempting to impress by affecting greater importance or merit than is actually possessed." An album is a collection of songs. What in particular makes you consider the album to be pretentious?
