"The Book of Souls" - Official pre-release thread (CONTAINS ALBUM SPOILERS)

Hmmm...reading some of the comments, it looks like it might be a fake. It's a well done fake though.

"The Book of Souls" - Official pre-release thread (CONTAINS ALBUM SPOILERS)

That teaser has me super hyped for IESF! I can tell it's going to explode from that ambiance into some awesomely heavy riff. Also, while I like the main album artwork, I think this single's artwork is much more interesting.

It's sickening how underrated Lord of Light is

I adore Lord of Light. The chorus is one of my all time favorites and Adrian's solo is incredible. The main riff that kicks in after the intro is also fucking bad ass. I haven't gotten this far on the commentary yet, but it's a definite 10/10.

    Your Maiden blasphemy

SIT and AMOLAD are the perfect 10s for me, with Seventh Son and Powerslave just behind them.

Tournament of Maiden Solos: the Top 10 video!

Ghost of the Navigator, one of Janick's best solos by far.

"The Book of Souls" - Official pre-release thread (CONTAINS ALBUM SPOILERS)

There were 30 second samples about a week or two ahead of time for TFF. They were quickly pulled down, but made their way to YouTube. I remember listening to them over and over again. I think it somewhat ruined my experience though, so if they do show up, I'm going to try my best to stay away...

A Matter of Life and Death Dissection

AMOLAD is just incredible. The riffs, melodies, solos, and especially lyrics are all easily among Maiden's best. The songs fit together perfectly on a thematic and musical level. The arrangements are also quite complex for Maiden, with many instances of beautifully layered guitars. Listening...

As far as albums with repetitive choruses, why does Seventh Son get a break?

The only Maiden songs that annoy me repetition-wise are The Angel and the Gambler and Don't Look To the Eyes of a Stranger. Although, I have always felt that No More Lies could have been amazing, rather than just good, with a more interesting chorus. Usually, the vocal melodies or guitar lines...

What is your least favorite Maiden song?

The Angel and the Gambler narrowly over Weekend Warrior, Hooks in You, The Apparition, and Chains of Misery. These are skipped almost 100% of the time when I put on these albums, and the only Maiden songs I rate below 5/10. The latter 4 songs I chalk up to lazy writing. They're bad, uninspired...

Tournament of Maiden Solos: the Top 10 video!

Children of the Damned has one of my favorite tapping based solos and H's solo in The Duelists is just an incredibly well crafted piece altogether. Just realized I only selected 032, meant to also vote for 010...

"The Book of Souls" - Official pre-release thread (CONTAINS ALBUM SPOILERS)

I like it better than the singles from TFF for sure. Absolutely love the video! It's great to hear Bruce doing something different here. His vocals remind me a lot of Ian Gillan, with some really awesome vocal runs. The music itself is good, but nothing spectacular. The melody line from the...

Definitely a grower, but still absolutely loving it! Bruce sounds the best he has in years.

"The Book of Souls" - Official pre-release thread (CONTAINS ALBUM SPOILERS)

It's true. From what I've read, the main issue with Bruce on TFF is the production mindset. They were too concerned with getting everything in as few takes as possible for that "live" feel. Even if it meant leaving mistakes. I'm definitely not a fan of that style. I'd prefer the studio versions...

    Children of the Damned

Brilliant performance from Bruce on this one; the emotion he puts into every line is spectacular. Instrumentally, it's full of beautiful melodies and a memorable solo from H. A true classic in every way. 10/10

    Invaders

This is a good, energetic opener. The vocals, while silly in places, are also impressive. The bouncy main riff and chorus melody don't blend too well with the lyrics though. It's an overall decent song with some great bass lines, but easy to forget amongst all of the classics present on this...

    Metal with female vocals

Seven Kingdoms from Tampa, FL; they opened for Queensryche when I saw them in 2013. I was super impressed by the band, especially their vocalist, Sabrina Valentine. Great power metal.

    Drifter

Really poor lyrics in this one. None of the riffs are very memorable either. Not a good way to close an album. Very average, poor by Maiden's standards. Especially knowing what is to come. 5/10

    Twilight Zone

I believe this is Maiden's shortest song (not including Ides of March) clocking in at 2:33. There's just not a lot here. The bridge section is the highlight with a very nice guitar harmony. However, I'm not a huge fan of the falsetto vocals, and the main riff is simply decent and nothing more...
