    Virtual XI appreciation

These Blaze albums were always the pits for me until the recent, woefully produced effort. I gave them another go and found them quite good actually. Clear production. The underdog status just adds to the appeal.

    Tears Of A Clown

Speed of Light and Man of Sorrows. Most of the others are okayish, but bland. I can't see me listening to it much longer.

The Book Of Souls (song not album)

The bastard child of Fear of the Dark and X Factor, if you can imagine such a hideous creature, followed by the riff from, you'll never guess, Losfer Words! Actually, it's not too bad, just instantly forgettable. 4/10.

    Tears Of A Clown

    Smith/Harris generic 3. Yes, I'm crying. 3/10.

    When The River Runs Deep

Smith/Harris generic 2. Funny vocal at the start though. 3/10.

    The Great Unknown

    Smith/Harris generic 1. Could've been great. 3/10.

    Death Or Glory

    Aces low. 3/10.

The Book of Souls: General album discussion

I don't want to be negative, it's Maiden after all and like it, but it not blowing me away. They're definitely in their 'space' era after TFF, and an empty vessel, a 'space', does fit. Harris' absence too. It doesn't seem to have its own identity, except for Empire maybe but, aside from the...

The Book of Souls: General album discussion

It occurred to me that all previous 15 studio albums were distinctly different from each other, where BOS GOES OUT OF IT'S WAY to mimic them, with Bruce's solo stuff thrown in too. Is the album meant to be an empty vessel containing the lifeblood of the older work? A book of souls? Reflected in...

    The Red And The Black

It's mixed with vocal and guitar almost bang next to each other in the centre and they clash, painfully. I don't know about Wild Wind but I enjoy that.

    Shadows Of The Valley

They can do stuff like this in their sleep. I don't 'hate' the track, but it's extremely lackluster. After 5 years, it's lazy. And don't you keep thinking, "They've done this before, but better?", cos I do.

    If Eternity Should Fail

Straight-forward rocker with a sticky chorus, interesting middle but no solos. 6/10.

    The Red And The Black

What the fuck is Steve doing to that bass? 4/10 for the comedy.

    The Man Of Sorrows

This is my number2. Good ol'Davey comes up trumps with some good sounds, but he's done better. 7/10.

    Shadows Of The Valley

    Is it over yet? 1/10

The Book of Souls: General album discussion

Ill-disciplined probably due to Harris' absence, physically, mentally and emotionally. I've got it 14th, above the Blaze albums, but at least they were original, so it could fall.

    Speed Of Light

My favourite. A punky edge. Good but no El Dorado, and the solos sound rough. 7/10.
  18. E

    Empire Of The Clouds

Gas-bag farts, crashes and burns. Sloooowwwly. 3/10.

    What's the matter with FOTD?

It used to be my 3rd to last favourite. Now it is 4th to last favourite. And Sign of the Cross is having a word._
