What type of Blaze-era Iron Maiden fan were you?

With hindsight it's easier to be forgiving and less anti when it's not being rudely stuffed in your face, but it all happened a little differently to me. Started in '81 and all was dandy until No Prayer(now a favourite). But it was Fear in '92 which killed the band for me, and didn't consider...

Why Judas Priest aren't as popular as Iron Maiden?

T shirts with colourful pictures. I've always seen Maiden as ambassadors and recruitment. They literally fly the flag for metal music whilst their artworks attract a younger audience. Priest I see as research and development, changing their style and sound, being more innovative. Both bands...

True, my mistake. It seems I got a runt with no inner.

Judas Priest Discography Discussion (part 2 starting page 20)

Something I noticed about the jagged logo in that there are two different styles. As it's in joined-up writing, each letter is followed by a 'tail' to adjoin to the next letter. But with the reunion albums, AND Stained Class, the 'a' has no tail, therefore only have 5 underline zigzags followed...

Judas Priest Discography Discussion (part 2 starting page 20)

The black on mine looks dark brown. It also has the diagonal lights from the back of the cover in white. This is the start of the diagonal theme that keeps repeating and the first outing of the diagonal jagged logo. The original is red rather than the (reissued?) blue as shown above. Killing...

The Yearly Metal Project (With a Twist - See inside): 1982

Girlschool - Hit and Run. How could I forget this gem. One of the very few records from back then that'll still give me a kick. I saw this lot on this tour too and it was magic. "I still love Kelly."

Judas Priest Discography Discussion (part 2 starting page 20)

I think you're being overgenerous with Stained Class there. It's their worst '70's album for me; less interesting than the previous three, nowhere near as strong as Killing Machine in both writing and sound. I can never get through it without skipping tracks for, as you hinted, the 'filler'...

    Bruce Dickinson

Fair enough. It would've been good to hear about his emotions on these subjects though. Remorse, regret, relief, happiness, sadness; the book lacked an insight into his feelings which is the only part of him that remains in the dark. I hoped the book would shine a light here. Nevermind.

The Yearly Metal Project (With a Twist - See inside): 1982

Def Leppard - High 'n' Dry. Although I despised what they became on their next record, this one was a favourite at the time. Michael Schenker Group - MSG(2nd album). Axeman's a classic track. Krokus - Hardware. Not as good as Metal Rendezvous, but not 'arf bad. Budgie - Nightflight. Not amongst...

    Bruce Dickinson

Thanks for the info. I wasn't really interested in the details, just pointing out the holes in the story. More dirt would've balanced the thing. I appreciate his singing, application of talent and politics but even golden boys have skeletons. They would've made it more interesting to me.

    Bruce Dickinson

It's very Blue Peter(meaning PG). He bounds off with derring-do through war torn Europe without a care for his safety to play his music for the kids, but what of his wife and family? Does he care? Do they give a damn? Is this the basis for separation? Some on here may know but most won't, like...

Judas Priest Discography Discussion (part 2 starting page 20)

My vinyls are originals bought in '81. Stained Class has a thinnish production by Dennis Mackay, bar the track 'Better by You' solely produced by James Guthrie who went on to produce Killing Machine which has a much fatter, more modern sound. I gave Stained Class a spin recently. I've never been...

    Judas Priest

Tipton's twiddling of knobs is absent this time and it's evident. He co-produced Redeemer and Nostradamus(with KK) and obviously had a hand in others, all of which feel alive if not always comfortable, but I prefer that. I seem to be in the minority by thinking Firepower has a dull soundscape...

    Judas Priest

It may chart high but I suspect the figures are low in comparison to yesteryear. The sound lacks all the subtle nuances and deft light touches that made Priest so special to me. Redeemer still had it even with Faulkner. I think Sneap's production is uninteresting. Very safe and for the kids. I...

Judas Priest Discography Discussion (part 2 starting page 20)

Popoff manages to put into words what I've always felt about Painkiller(but could never properly express) in that it's metal for kids. Firepower is in a similar vein. They're both alright records but display an immaturity.

    Judas Priest

I played the lp backwards(side D to A) to relieve the ...sameyness and found it pretty dull I'm afraid. I think it all stems from Faulkner's influence. He's an excellent player but very straight. KK is Ledge, free flowing and artistic whereas Richie is uniform and conventional. The twin leads...

    Judas Priest

It's a nice record, just a little safe and straightforward(which everyone does nowadays it seems). I can see why Painkiller fans think it the best since then, but I prefer the other reunion albums. Deeper lows but greater highs. Early days so it may grow-love the title track.

    Judas Priest

I think Phil Collins once said Genesis could sound like Zeppelin in practice but the records always sounded like themselves. It's just an inherent thing. Changing all members would change the sound significantly for me, not to mention the character. KK going was a huge loss, Glenn will be too...
