    Senjutsu - 3rd September 2021

So it is. I have imagined what the songs will be like, but I don’t dismiss the album as crap just because of three reviews and one single that by the band’s own account doesn’t represent the general sound and direction of the album. I just urge people to relax a bit and take the reviews with a...

Right there and then, someone should’ve stepped in and vetoed that decision.

I think that Sat 15 being just copy paste from H’s demo was a huge mistake. It sounds absolute crap and the timing is off on the programmed drums. The track would’ve benefited from being played by the band instead of using H’s Tascam 8 channel “band in a box” demo. That being said, I’m 100%...

Well, opinions are like buttholes, everyone has them. The main takeaway is not to force your own upon someone else. Making a fair statement or arguing for what you believe is a different matter and last but not least, to show each other respect when doing so.

I believe it’s a pretty fair review from a person that’s not a die hard fan. The length and repetition is something that deserves a bit of criticism and the very fair point that Kev or someone else steps in and “directs” Steve is something I’ve been asking for a long time. However, if Steve...

Only real criticism of the sound on TWOTW is that it lacks a bit of vocal clarity and that the drums could have a bit more edge on them. Otherwise it’s the best sounding since AMOLAD. Let’s see if this particular song is mixed a bit softer to fit the song. The songs on past albums have a...

Yeah, the big picture. However, individual tracks can be mixed a bit different from one another with more accent on the kick drum, bass etc.

BNW - great return to form, but drops a bit in the middle, regains form at the end. I do notice that there’s a bit of leftover material and structures from the Blaze sessions, not that it’s bad or anything, but a couple of songs would have sounded perfectly fine on V XI. DoD - uneven but has...

These breakdowns gives me much higher expectations than TBOS did back in ‘15. Love the Harris epics from the Blaze era as well and TXF was the first Maiden album I heard (and I still hold that album in my top 5) so I think I’m in for a treat. Combine that with Bruce and H magic and this could be...

Maiden has basically been using the same chord and melody patterns on the majority of their songs since the age of the dinosaurs:)

Steve also wrote Futureal, one of the best rockers since the 80’s and under 3 min when played live :)

The solos are really good, but overall it’s substandard for Maiden IMO. Could’ve been so much better with more inspired drumming, better production and more elaborate arrangements. Imagine if the leftover songs from VXI that were used on BNW had been on VXI instead together with my other points...

Virtual XI got a minus review in the one of the biggest newspapers in my country. - was the lowest score and +++++ was top score. Think the headline was something like “Fallen heroes” or something along those lines. Different times back then obviously.

TFF is miles ahead of TBOS performance- and also creative wise. The production is rather dry and dull, but at least there’s some bottom end on it. TBOS sounds like a rehearsal tape with some good, great and really half baked ideas that could use some serious editing and or rearranging. TBOS is...

    Senjutsu - 3rd September 2021

In retrospect, TBOS was over-hyped by the press IMO. No way is that a 10/10 album in my book. Seems like this one is a grower and growers are great because they take time to understand and digest. From what I read so far, Senjutsu will suit my taste far better than TBOS. And to get four Harris...

Wouldn’t mind if H used a 7 string in drop-A to fill out the sonic spectrum a bit (not super loud in the mix) as it gets a bit messy with the three guitars doing the same rythm at times. I’ve done some “adding” when playing along and it works quite nice.

They seem happy and enthusiastic about it - good! However, Bruce’s comment about “warts and all” is not that encouraging TBH. Hope he means that there’s a bit of improv and stuff rather than mistakes and missed beats. In a couple of weeks we’ll know, but I do have a strong feeling about this.
