    Senjutsu - 3rd September 2021

Hell on Earth seems to be really something else! Has he pulled a magic one out of the bag this time? We’ll know soon :)

Perfect. That’s the abbreviation of the Swedish national railway company.

I’m with you :) Love to hear Steve thumping away and given the album that preceded BNW, the sonic evolution is astonishing. Still, looking at it from a technical perspective and not from an artistic and musical, the mix is a bit lob sided towards the bass and drum. A couple of tracks have the...

    Senjutsu - 3rd September 2021

Compared a couple of tracks back to back of the reunion albums and to my surprise I actually liked TWOTW best by a hair to AMOLAD remaster. BNW has a good sound, but it’s quite compressed, the drums (samples…) are way to high in the mix and the guitars take a back seat to the bass and drums, not...

    Senjutsu - 3rd September 2021

Spot on! If you listen to some of the more recent bands on a CD and then look them up on YouTube to watch them live, some of the bands sound like they’ve forgotten how to play their instruments. In this day and age, you can use the power of software to make stuff sound tight as F, but to...

Agreed, it’s a matter of taste. The drums on TBOS sounds hollow and thin to my ears, maybe they sound brilliant to someone else? I think this organic and analog sound fits Maiden’s style since they play sort of organic and fluid. The mix on TWOTW is good and certainly the best sound Maiden has...

For me, even the somewhat negative reviews make me even more exited. Just confirms that this album probably fits my taste of Maiden. And the part that says brilliant storytelling makes me happy as a kid on Christmas :)

Doug Helvering of YouTube fame has done a couple of reactions and analyses of Malmsteen’s stuff. Among others, I think the piece you’re referring to.

For me, the latest from him has been a total disappointment due to the horrid production, the lack of a good singer, programmed drums etc. I mean, the guy doesn’t lack talent, he lacks insight and a producer that can rein him in and make a reality check :)

Well, he basically got decapitated in the comments, even by the real Yngwie fans (that says it all doesn’t it?).

    Senjutsu - 3rd September 2021

Speaking of reviews and reviewers, I recently read a review on Yngwie’s latest effort that was given 4,5 out of 5, so I guess the reviewer was either a total fanboy, deaf or had no idea what he was doing.

Prediction on Stratego: Melodic lead intro, verse in major key, pre chorus with lead following the vocal line and chorus in minor key -> solo from Gers in shred mode :)

Yeah, he did an awesome job regardless. And the tour after was a true statement as well. What I meant was that people might have gotten a bit rose tinted due to the fact, that’s all.

    Senjutsu - 3rd September 2021

I think Bruce’s cancer scare might have affected the way people viewed the album when it dropped, it sure did for me at first anyway. I was just so happy to know he made it and that we got an album. There are some true gems on it, but there are also issues with it and I’ve already made my point...

    Senjutsu - 3rd September 2021

Since all the other reviews are ranging from positive to extremely positive, I have no problem with one that doesn’t seem to get into it as much. It’s not a total write off either, just criticizing the facts we already know and he’s probably not a fan of the general direction of the reunion era...

7th Son being the closest to a filler free album IMO.

    Senjutsu - 3rd September 2021

On a sonic note, I’m glad to hear that Dave’s lead sound has gotten the top end back. His lead sound has been so rolled off on the latest albums that it almost sounds like he is playing on an old POD direct in to the console. Everything sounds more balanced this time round and more coherent -...

Hoping for GOTN quality and pray that it’s not another Pilgrim or Alchemist. That would be a disappointment for me, but maybe a highlight for someone else.

    Senjutsu - 3rd September 2021

This might very well be an album with no fillers. That hasn’t happened in a looong time. Lost in a Lost World seems to be the least appealing to the reviewers, but I’ve amused myself reading the old track run throughs from TFF and TBOS and with hindsight it doesn’t give that much clues to how...

    Senjutsu - 3rd September 2021

Anyone want to venture a guess if all the Steve epics are in E-minor or if he has gone out of the comfort zone and used a different key this time? He has used D-minor on occasion also, but it’s E-minor FTW as it is easy to write for guitar and bass in that key using open strings etc. C# minor...
