Not the same band... Not the same music!

Ironically, the "cleanness" of some of Maiden's albums is one of my pet peeves. I don't have any clue as to what exactly it's about, whether it's to do with Drop-D (which means more or less nothing to me :p), or something about the way it's recorded and mixed, but some of the albums feel too...

Not the same band... Not the same music!

Yeah, I think that the Maiden-parallels to Bruce's solo work are in many cases unfounded. There are similarities in some places, but on the whole I think that Bruce very much did his own thing. Even on the later albums. And I think that a lot of people (apparently Nicko included :p) draw that...

Iron Maiden video interviews / shows

Finally we'll have some solid info. Still hoping I'll be able to catch one show in England and one in Sweden, but I doubt it.

Oops :p My bad there :p

The cover of A Matter of Life and Death

I have read some explanations, and I can appreciate that there are references and what not. And I realise that a lot of effort is put into the covers. But I still think there's a disconnect. Maybe it's because it's more subtle in the older albums. But I see a better connection between the covers...

The cover of A Matter of Life and Death

Hehe, fair enough. I tried phrasing it a few different ways then gave up :p What I meant was that many of the Iron Maiden covers aren't necessarily connected to the theme of the albums as much as they should be. The later covers have been better at fusing the art with the theme of the albums...

Do you suffer from iTunes-ADD? (aka. my irrational music pet-peeve)

There's something to be said for complete randomness though. i.e. using shuffle, not just picking a track at random, but eliminating yourself from the process entirely. I've rediscovered plenty of albums I'd "forgotten" about in my collection by shuffling. But I'm usually an album or "best...

Do you suffer from iTunes-ADD? (aka. my irrational music pet-peeve)

Point taken, I can appreciate that. Might just be that they always change the songs that fit my mood :p

    Maiden-culture...

I've found that while it doesn't necessarily affect my perception of Song X as good or bad, it does play a very important part. It might not automatically make it better or worse, but it can deepen the relationship I have with a song. For instance, as I read up on Paschendale, the imagery...

Do you suffer from iTunes-ADD? (aka. my irrational music pet-peeve)

I can understand it if it's not your music, but there are people who will do that kind of thing with their own music, that they ought to know if they like or not from the start :p

    Least favourite album

Virtual XI It's not that I don't like Blaze, because after getting into The X Factor I really have respect for the man, and technically the writing and music on VXI is better suited for his voice. But the songs are pretty uninspiring except for The Clansman, imo. They're repetitive, there's no...

Do you suffer from iTunes-ADD? (aka. my irrational music pet-peeve)

Does anyone recognise this syndrome? I run into it whenever I'm at with friends somewhere and people are playing music through iTunes/iPods or whatever. There's this tendency among certain individuals to change songs every 30 seconds or so, and it drives me crazy :p I realise the need to heard...

Heaven and Hell - The Devil You Know

Re: Heaven and Hell I was so pissed that I missed Heaven & Hell when they were in Sweden. I saw their name on a billboard, but didn't realise that it was Dio-Sabbath :p I got into those albums in a big way a while back, and there's some awesome stuff there. Lots of it rivalling the early...

The cover of A Matter of Life and Death

I think it's a great cover. One of my favourites. I think they did a good job with how they handled Eddie. It's a more interesting concept than your average "on this album Eddie will look like THIS"-cover. What does bother me is the logo. It's a great idea, but I have yet to see a machine...

    Imagining in maiden songs

I'm well aware of that. I always said I was. Otherwise I wouldn't be ambivalent, would I? :p

Men = Women ?? Not always...

Don't forget that on average, women are physically weaker than men. I'm not saying they can't open a door, but it's a fact that it's easier for me to carry a heavy bag groceries home than it is for my girlfriend. Sure, I can understand why such an act could be demeaning, but in more ways than...

    Imagining in maiden songs

Might be, but phrases like "They are taking our land", "I'll take what is mine" etc. sound pretty close to me. On one level. As I said, I already understand that the sentiment behind the lyrics themselves is a wholly different one. But there's also a similarity that I get hung up on. Even though...

    Imagining in maiden songs

I can see that, and I understand it. However, that kind of rhetoric has been kind of hijacked by the extreme-right today. So it still makes me kind of ambivalent, even though I know that wasn't the original intent.
