"The Book of Souls" - Official pre-release thread (CONTAINS ALBUM SPOILERS)

I agree. Its probably not dominating like on a Elton John song. Its just the instrument he chose, when he started to work on the song. I cant imagine that its just 18 minutes of piano and vocals. :)

I agree. Face in the Sand, Montsegur and Paschendale are killer songs. Definitely my favorite of the reunion albums.

    Best Live Maiden song

Fear of the Dark, and Hallowed be thy Name are brilliant live! I understand why they are always included in there live set.

How do you guys feel about the newer Maiden albums?

I don't listen to them as much as there old stuff, but there are some good tunes on there recent albums. What ruins the experience for me, is there need to continue with the Celtic slow intro/outro,repetitive chorus ( Virtual XI style) songs like No More Lies, When the Wild Wind Blows.

    Who will carry the torch?

Nobody can replace them, but it’s at least a comfort, that they have managed to put out so many studio, and live albums for us to revisit. Hopefully there will be some outtakes, and rarities coming our way, after the band split up.

    Most underated songs

Montségur its an overlooked gem. It could easily been on the Powerslave album. I was extremely disappointed that it was skipped live, in favor of the Virtual XI-ish No More Lies.

    Mother of Mercy

This song is very similar to the songs on Bruce’s solo albums. Especially the Chemical Wedding. Still my favourite track from the album.

    No Prayer for the Dying

Not their best, but there is a lot of great songs on this album. It was the first Maiden album I bought, so it has a very special place in my heart. Reminds me of the attitude they got on their first albums. Fast rocking uptempo rock n roll songs. I hope the next album will bring back some of...

    When the Wild Wind Blows

The Man Who Would Be King There are some cool guitar solos, and I don’t mind the lyrics, but the music just feels a bit predictable to me. The vocal melody sounds very familiar with a lot of the stuff from the reunion/Blaze albums, and I think it lacks a proper climax. I was hoping this song...
