The X Factor: individual album judgement by yours truly

its a 9/10 for me (I tend to give 2-3 point bonuses to songs with good lyrics)

The X Factor: individual album judgement by yours truly

Powerful imagery in Look For The Truth - maybe too direct/blunt for some. lyrically, the closest that Iron Maiden ever got to Pantera

    Your Maiden blasphemy

Gers is a fantastic songwriter - The Legacy is my fave track on AMOLAD, and I've always enjoyed The Pilgrim more than the majority of the fanbase does. as a guitarist, he's never approached Adrian's BEAST of a tone, nor Dave's fluidity, but he has a great ear for melody and a knack for catchy...

    Fortunes of War

Fortunes of War is one of Maiden's better live performances IMHO - the entire song is constructed for and fits Blaze's voice perfectly.

    Fortunes of War

Live versions of Fortunes of War are interesting from a Steve Harris bass-playing standpoint. I don't remember many other instances where he holds two bass guitars at once. 1:54

Your Top 10 songs of any band you want

"Clean" by Depeche Mode is a hell of a good song. Always thought a metallized cover of it would be interesting

Obsequiae: The Palms of Sorrowed Kings new album November 22nd 2019

can't get enough of the title track from Obsequiae's full-length debut. Some of the stop-start phrasings recall "Where Eagles Dare", and the guitar tone recalls the Murray/Smith guitar tone on the Somewhere In Time album

Fates Warning + Arch / Matheos

New song "Scars" is growing on me a bit. Matheos' riffs and Vera's bass (which manages to be audible in several places) are a highlight. Alder's voie is solid as always, though he sings the chorus similarly throughout (wish he'd mix it up a bit) - after four listens this stands as a 3.5/5 for me.

    Adrian Smith

always loved H's tone - was listening to Live At The Rainbow today, and his tone was glorious even then.

    USA Politics

unsure if history proves this or not - would seem that some of the right-wing revolutions in the late 20th century (in South America) resulted in many on the left being killed/imprisoned after the fact.

    Your Maiden blasphemy

Maiden rarely goes for the "chugga chugga chugga" chords (which is a huge plus to my ears) - and when they do (main Powerslave riff), they change up the chuggas enough to where they really don't sound like thousands of metal bands who came after them (who rely far too much on samey and...

    Your Maiden blasphemy

^^ this describes my view of 7th Son as a good (but not great) album. Power chords are few and far between -- perhaps Iron Maiden's least riffing album ever

    Your Maiden blasphemy

X-Factor is one of the albums in my 4-way tie for best Maiden album: Killers - Somewhere In Time - The X Factor- Brave New World

    Your Maiden blasphemy

Killers is in a 4-way tie for greatest Iron Maiden album ever. Twilight Zone is the 3rd best track on Killers (after Purgatory and Murders in the Rue Morgue) -barely edging out the Title Track and Another Life

    Adrian Smith

biggest gripe with Jan is that his tone is nowhere near as all-encompassing as H's and nowhere near as fluid as Davey's.

    Adrian Smith

I literally cringed when Eddie Truck was bashing Janick in one of his podcasts earlier this year. And I say this as someone who has a more favorable view of Trunk than many others seem to.
