    Best Van Halen LP?

Diver Down should be included, as there's a small but vocal number of VH fans who hold it as their fave. I've been a huge fan for over 31 years now - have listened to all of the albums hundreds of times on drives and such. VHII has aged the best overall - still packs the fire and punch of...

    Phantom of the Opera

Clive Burr's ride cymbal attack on early live recordings blows my mind to this day. Not sure if Nicko (an excellent cymbal player in his own right) can come close to Clive's brilliance.

Nights of the Dead, Legacy of the Beast: Live in Mexico City (new live album)

I wasn't aware that Maiden had ever recorded (live or in studio) in Drop D tuning - this is interesting to read.

Best 3 songs from each album from any band you want

I could go for worst songs - but most of the bands that I own the entire discography of have less than 3 bad songs per album

Why did Steve Harris fire Clive Burr ?

This is indeed interesting. I've always had a huge soft spot for Twilight Zone - it rocks hard but has a certain swagger and swing feel to it. Perhaps because Clive was following the rhythm guitars instead of the bass?

Why did Steve Harris fire Clive Burr ?

regarding the "Clive was throwing up in a bucket next to his kit" often during the NotB tour - it's within the realm of possibility that Clive indulged just as much (or only a little bit more) than other band members, but given his pre-diabetic condition, he was less fit to handle any indulgence...

    Gates of Tomorrow

with recent reviews skewing towards 8, 9 and 10 ratings for Gates of Tomorrow, could be we state for the record that Gates is not only an underrated song but also a hidden gem in Maiden's catalog? Hopefully the old time "conventional wisdom" about the Dance of Death album being a "Dance of...

    Gates of Tomorrow

agreed on all points - I even went a little higher and granted it a 9. Its not a full blown epic or amazing blast of short rocking energy (my 2 criteria for 10's) but there's really no part that's lackluster and every part fits well into the next. Instrumental section is fantastic - some of the...

    Isle of Avalon

instrumental section is uplifting, soaring even - Dave's intro solo is classic Dave, then 'Arry comes in with the deep bass note runs (no more "rickety" 'Arry bass notes of his youth), H takes flight and pauses to enjoy the lush, verdant scenery of his bandmates riffing below. He then switches...

    Queensryche & Geoff Tate

will be interesting to compare his performance on "Della Brown" to his performance on Queensryche MTV Unplugged Also - why in the name of all that is holy and true have QR's management not released the MTV Unplugged set as an official release?

    Isle of Avalon

easily in the top 3-5 post-reunion Maiden tracks. Pacing is sooo good -edges out Paschendale here, and it takes me more places that Book of Souls (title track) does. Is there another post-reunion song that I'm missing, that could compete with these three? The slight Bruce vocal strain in...

The Genesis of Somewhere in Time

didn't H and/or Dave (or both) use Tom Scholz's (Boston) "Rockman" amp on their late 80's work? The amp was popular during that era (Def Leppard's "Hysteria" was recorded entirely on Rockman's, from what I've read) but its been heavily criticized as lacking fullness and any "balls" - very...
