    Empire Of The Clouds

I actually am a DT fan, and they end a lot of their long, epic songs the same way. With a vocal line over some crashing power chords. I do agree that it sounds a bit more natural with Maiden, though.

    Empire Of The Clouds

You know, it kind of reminds me of how Dream Theater end a lot of their "epic" songs as well.

The Book of Souls: General album discussion

Ahh. Now it makes sense! That part confused the hell out of me. On the CD: I was finally able to get my CD today. Does anybody find it really super bassy?
  4. Brave New Pilgrim

    Empire Of The Clouds

Incidentally, that may be one of my favorite Maiden lyrics ever.

#1 Record? Did you do your duty?

Did my duty. Is it just me, or is the actual album REALLY bassy?
  6. Brave New Pilgrim

    Empire Of The Clouds

Even the Mona Lisa has it's critics.
  7. Brave New Pilgrim

    Empire Of The Clouds

Most people would disagree with that.
  8. Brave New Pilgrim

    Empire Of The Clouds

Not to be "that guy", but it still beats the creaky boat crap in ROTAM.

#1 Record? Did you do your duty?

To be fair, it's not really the stores fault. It's whoever packed the delivery. Didn't stop me from storming out in a huff, though :P

#1 Record? Did you do your duty?

They took my name and phone number. Supposedly they're going to hold 2 copies (my dad is also a fan) for me and call me when they get them, but I seriously have doubts.

#1 Record? Did you do your duty?

So I called the only store in my city that actually sells CDs just to confirm that they had The Book of Souls. They told me that their delivery was going to arrive at 2:00 pm and that they indeed had 3 copies of The Book of Souls. So I get to the store just as the delivery arrives, and I wait...

    Your Maiden blasphemy

I actually think I prefer post 2000 Maiden to "classic era" Maiden as well.
  13. Brave New Pilgrim

Did any of the songs from The Book Of Souls enter your top 10 maiden songs list?

It's too hard to tell right now. Probably a safe bet that Empire is in my top ten, though. Other contenders are the title track and IESF.

    The Red And The Black

It's all good. Apologies if I offended as well. I still do love the vocal melody on the first verse as well as the octave harmonies that close out the instrumental section.
  15. Brave New Pilgrim

    The Red And The Black

No, but by saying "The song is fine" and "the issue is the listener" kind of implied it. But I digress, I've sort of fallen out of love with this one.
  16. Brave New Pilgrim

    The Red And The Black

Except I've been listening to the song since the leak. I have a grasp of it structurally now, and I reserve the right to judge it just as any person on the planet has the right to judge any piece of subjective art. Again, I state that I think that even at it's long runtime it's still a good...
  17. Brave New Pilgrim

    The Red And The Black

It's funny you should quote me, as my opinion of the song has unfortunately dropped fairly significantly since I made that post. Don't get me wrong, I still think it's a decent song, but it needs some major trimming to make it cohesive IMHO. Some really cool parts that are stretched out way too...

The Book of Souls: General album discussion

I find the riffing the exact opposite. I find this album to be the most juicy-riff-heavy of all of the reunion albums. That being said, Maiden hasn't ever really been a "riffy" band, though. It's always been more about the melodies and harmonies with them.

The Book of Souls: General album discussion

It was more fun here when the album leaked. Much more positive vibe overall.
  20. Brave New Pilgrim

    Empire Of The Clouds

Still a masterpiece. The most emotionally driven piece of music that Maiden have ever written. So many twists and turns throughout this behemoth. I know taste is subjective and all, but I suspect anyone who isn't moved by this song doesn't have a soul.
