I actually am a DT fan, and they end a lot of their long, epic songs the same way. With a vocal line over some crashing power chords.
I do agree that it sounds a bit more natural with Maiden, though.
Ahh. Now it makes sense! That part confused the hell out of me.
On the CD: I was finally able to get my CD today. Does anybody find it really super bassy?
They took my name and phone number. Supposedly they're going to hold 2 copies (my dad is also a fan) for me and call me when they get them, but I seriously have doubts.
So I called the only store in my city that actually sells CDs just to confirm that they had The Book of Souls. They told me that their delivery was going to arrive at 2:00 pm and that they indeed had 3 copies of The Book of Souls. So I get to the store just as the delivery arrives, and I wait...
It's all good. Apologies if I offended as well.
I still do love the vocal melody on the first verse as well as the octave harmonies that close out the instrumental section.
Except I've been listening to the song since the leak. I have a grasp of it structurally now, and I reserve the right to judge it just as any person on the planet has the right to judge any piece of subjective art.
Again, I state that I think that even at it's long runtime it's still a good...
It's funny you should quote me, as my opinion of the song has unfortunately dropped fairly significantly since I made that post.
Don't get me wrong, I still think it's a decent song, but it needs some major trimming to make it cohesive IMHO. Some really cool parts that are stretched out way too...
I find the riffing the exact opposite. I find this album to be the most juicy-riff-heavy of all of the reunion albums.
That being said, Maiden hasn't ever really been a "riffy" band, though. It's always been more about the melodies and harmonies with them.
Still a masterpiece. The most emotionally driven piece of music that Maiden have ever written. So many twists and turns throughout this behemoth.
I know taste is subjective and all, but I suspect anyone who isn't moved by this song doesn't have a soul.
