Anybody else think the line "Maybe it's all just for the best" is a bit weird in this song? Like they're suggesting his suicide was "for the best". Please tell me I'm just interpreting the line wrong.
There was a part of me that thought the song could have been cut down a bit. That was before I was able to wrap my head around the structuring of the song completely.
After wrapping my head around the whole thing, I've concluded that any trimming I would do to this song would be very minor and...

I'm really having trouble getting this song out of my head. It's a shame it'll never get on the radio, cuz it could be absolutely huge.

Far better than TFF, where a lot of the verses in some songs were almost sing-talking. Sounds about the same as DOD in my opinion, which isn't a bad thing.
I actually really like this one. I feel it would have worked even better as an "epic", though, with a long instrumental section in the middle. Still a great song. Nice chorus.
I'll combat that argument (not arguing with you, but rather the people who you're talking about :P ) by saying that if Maiden had released this album in the eighties, it would be considered a masterpiece.
