The full show from 6/9 at Royal Arene is up on YouTube and the band sounds absolutely tremendous. I mean locked in like a machine. And Bruce sounds phenomenal this show.
Re Simon's intro on "Murders," I've heard it enough times to know its absolutely a deliberate choice. I'm used to it now...
I think that's likely what they wanted at this stage of their career; an established professional who could learn the songs, fit in with the band musically and personally, not be a nuisance or obtrusive presence in any way, and show up for the gig and perform before huge audiences (some...
I noticed the slowered tempo too. I doubt it was because of fatigue. Rod called the 60k gig a "warm-up" show and although he may have been joking, there's some truth to that as well. If anyone benefited from the tempo change on "Aces," it was Bruce.
I don't mean comments like that; hell, I have them as well. Criticism is fine. I'm referring to more obnoxious rants that have no basis other than to mock or inflame.
Re IEM, my guess (and that's all it is, my opinion) is that as its a very tight show with interaction between the performance...
Not in the way you'd like to think. And I'm not playing any "Trust me bro" games, you're free to agree or disagree; it doesn't change the reality.
At this stage of their career, a band like Maiden has very few considerations when it comes to choosing a setlist. What Jimmy in Oklahoma or Stepan...
This tour is one of the most highly anticipated I've ever experienced, certainly in heavy metal. In my opinion, only Queen's appearance at Live Aid and Led Zeppelin's reunion shows appear to have generated this level of buzz over setlist, stage production and a new member.*
*"In my...
Maiden doesn't perform for you; they perform for themselves and you are invited along for the ride. They appreciate their loyal fans, yes, but no fans have any influence upon their creative decisions nor ever "forced" them to do anything. The creative element of the band is quite insulated from...
I know a few illustrators IRL who have worked with Bruce on his graphic novels and Maiden on some prints and posters (not name dropping, that's unimportant but understand that's my profession: illustration). One thing I know is that both Bruce individually and the band as an entity appreciate...
Maiden Live at Ullevi, '05: Nicko mangles the intro to "Murders," no one complains: "NICKO IS GOD!!!"
Maiden RFYL tour in Budapest, '25: Simon plays the intro much closer to the recording: the internet is up in arms and this tour sucks.
"The drapes are nice but...why don't they try something...
Simon and the band need to be able to see each other in order to communicate. There were several moments during the first Budapest show (I haven't seen the second show) where one of them would turn towards the drum riser to get in sync, find the one, etc. Completely understandable and not an...
