    Bruce Dickinson

I've always called it a Pantera cover band, because it is. It's a little sad to see Anselmo's pet project probably making a decent sum out on tour when the actual heart and soul of the band have both died.

    Bruce Dickinson

That was the most puzzling thing I've seen Bruce do in a while. It vexes me.

RUN FOR YOUR LIVES WORLD TOUR (2025/2026)

I was just listening to Ullevi earlier today and while WED wasn't that far into the set, I could certainly see why he wanted it to be the second song of the night for LOTB. That's a bitch of a song and even at his peak back in 2005, evidently it should've been the show opener since while he...

RUN FOR YOUR LIVES WORLD TOUR (2025/2026)

They had an intermission, I believe. It's also notable beyond its length for being the one Iron Maiden gig where Michael Kenney played keyboards on the stage throughout the show (so not just as a dressed-up setpiece for one section of one song like with SSOASS).

Simon Dawson is the new drummer

Not to mention personally meeting with regional managers or similar for their American record company way back in the day in anticipation of future success, thus guaranteeing full support and enthusiasm from that side for whatever the band was about to release next. Something many other managers...

I hope so, and yes. This is Maidenfans after all.

Iron Maiden News, Links, and Interviews

And meanwhile, you seem to mistake a silly bit of banter over an offhand comment made by Bruce himself as a serious commentary. Not to be entirely unexpected, this is Maidenfans after all.

Iron Maiden News, Links, and Interviews

Well... I'd argue that they were covering for two instances of human weakness: one on Steve for being unable to do that kind of backing vocal, and the second on Adrian for being unwilling to do it after he'd previously already done so with Bruce's solo band back in the 90s.

How will Simon Dawson change the look and sound of Maiden?

I'm going to cast heavy doubt on that guess, because Steve's been playing to Nicko's versions of those songs for 40 years now. I doubt he wants to relearn Hallowed for example.

    Ullevi 2005: the overlooked masterpiece?

Not forgetting Fear of the Dark, the most 80s song they have. That slot could've perfectly well been used for another actually period correct tune but no, we already did one tour without it and the universe nearly collapsed in on itself.

    Ullevi 2005: the overlooked masterpiece?

I think it's a bit of a shame they shelved it entirely since Hallowed from that show was very good if you ask me, Breeg and IM sounded fine as well and the latter had one of the few unique visual things they've done for it in the reunion era with the tank Eddie. Plus they evidently recorded some...

    Ullevi 2005: the overlooked masterpiece?

That and the Death on the Road DVD only releasing in 2006, a year after the live album which itself was recorded in 2003 probably ate the AMOLAD DVD's release window. I do have to wonder what happened there since we have footage of Steve and Kevin Shirley mixing The Longest Day in 2008, but I...

    Ullevi 2005: the overlooked masterpiece?

They obviously invested money into it with Shirley mixing and all, but I think Bruce straight-up commented on all the people viewing the show on their TVs at one point (and I know it was aired on TV in multiple countries) so it was definitely a way to advertise both the band and the Early Days...

    Ullevi 2005: the overlooked masterpiece?

It's so ridiculously low at times that I genuinely have a hard time hearing it over the other two. Prowler's intro comes to mind in particular, it sounds ridiculous with the riff being completely buried under Davey's wah lead.

    Ullevi 2005: the overlooked masterpiece?

The funny part is that the live mix was done by Kevin Shirley from a mobile and it's still amateur hour, with Adrian's guitar basically being AWOL for most of the show. Compare and contrast to the Donington '07 mixes from the songs they released a few years ago and it's night and day, and yet...

RUN FOR YOUR LIVES WORLD TOUR (2025/2026)

Bruce himself does, certainly. Otherwise he wouldn't have brought it up in interviews or his book before. It's no surprise people on the forums like to have some fun with the topic occasionally considering that.

    Most overrated Maiden album?

I don't think it's really intentionally buried, it's just that when playing rapid triplet patterns with one foot you're not going to get a lot of power in the hits, which will lower their effective volume as picked up by the mic. They probably couldn't or wouldn't boost the bass drum mic too...

    Most overrated Maiden album?

Piece of Mind easily has the best guitar sound they ever achieved in the 80s. Lush and full, not shrill like Powerslave nor overly effected like SiT. Just right. In addition the most overrated album is Number of the Beast while the most overrated album in Maidenfans et al. terms is Somewhere in...

RUN FOR YOUR LIVES WORLD TOUR (2025/2026)

LotB '22 seems like it'd be the opposite of my experience of the show back in 2018. I thought it was a shame to have to leave once RTTH started to beat the crowd and get a cab back to the hotel early since it was sounding so good. Had it been in 2022 I probably would've been running out the door...

    18th Studio Album discussion

Since 2016 they've also been willing to not play every single hotly requested classic on every tour, which for a while it sure felt like they'd given up on, considering the impressive run 2MTM had until 2016 for example, with TETMD not that far behind. In a way I was shocked to see both continue...
