Have you ever fundamentally changed your opinion on any Maiden album over a span of years?

So you think ageing has no impact on the composition of heavy metal music? You may be interested in some of the other factors at play for men who compose fast and adrenaline pumping music as they age (see here) I wouldn't attribute it all to stylistic choice; music is art, it is composed by...

RUN FOR YOUR LIVES WORLD TOUR (2025/2026)

yes I think that was it, Nicko said it at the time. I recall seeing them in 2002 at the 2nd Clive Burr trust concert at Brixton, with basically the same BNW set, having seen it 6 times by now since Earl's Court in 2000, and feeling it dragged. This, despite me being young and still quite a new...

RUN FOR YOUR LIVES WORLD TOUR (2025/2026)

Opinions were divided about how well the 2000 setlist flowed, and over what was included / left out. Like you, I liked it. But the reaction you had was not uniform. There was huge bafflement for many people as to why: - 20 minutes of Blaze era material was played on Bruce's first major reunion...

RUN FOR YOUR LIVES WORLD TOUR (2025/2026)

I was there at Download 03. I also saw them pay Paris Bercy on Give Me Ed. Great shows but I agree, it was one of the most poorly themed tours... as in, there was no theme and it sounded (and looked) like a Maiden jukebox. I think the rumbling backlash by some people at the BNW setlist...

Have you ever fundamentally changed your opinion on any Maiden album over a span of years?

I agree and would add that over time, I've come to believe the first 3 reunion albums are better than the more recent 3 BNW, DOD and AMOLAD all have more spark and energy. Probably because the band was only aged 42 --> mid 50s in that time as one factor No shame in ageing and tastes changing...

Subjects Bruce was wrong about or took his mouth too full

I didn't know that about the timing of the surgery (or I had forgotten). Definitely, Maiden picked up popularity in the USA veeery slowly compared to everywhere else after 1999. Ozzfest 2005 was a turning point. Andy Taylor also once mentioned 2006 as a turning point in the band's income and...

    Paul Di'Anno

RIP Paul. I'm torn regarding Stepan, perfectly nice when I once spoke to him a decade ago, when he started writing these books. Since then, he increasingly comes across like a superfan desperate at all costs to work himself personally into the outer reaches of Maiden's story. Very, very odd...

RUN FOR YOUR LIVES WORLD TOUR (2025/2026)

Still Life... very outside chance this is the slow song played 4th or 5th in the set. More likely than Remember Tomorrow and I also can't see Revelations being back (even if goes down well live).

RUN FOR YOUR LIVES WORLD TOUR (2025/2026)

My guesswork from the first 9 albums for next year's set list: IM - Phantom and Iron Maiden seem guaranteed. I think Prowler has an outside chance. Killers - I can see Wrathchild coming back. Overplayed early 2000s but absent since 2016-17. NOTB - the usual three with Hallowed making a star...

RUN FOR YOUR LIVES WORLD TOUR (2025/2026)

I even got the impression Legacy of the Beast was a hedging tour as well, but even more so this one. Potentially they could do a US run in 2026, then a brief return to Europe, and call it quits off the back of this massive tour.

    18th Studio Album discussion

totally agree about merch, Rod will also like the idea which is important! Senjutsu songs were written in 2019-20, which means a gap of around six years before they might write and record in a studio again by 2026. Lots of time for ideas I hope. Steve can actually use all of Janick's ideas this...

RUN FOR YOUR LIVES WORLD TOUR (2025/2026)

yes I just experienced this, so I bought rear standing. Fuck it, I just need tickets banked. Probably I'll enjoy it more standing that seated, I figure.

RUN FOR YOUR LIVES WORLD TOUR (2025/2026)

Listened to both Pat Travers albums Nicko is on via Spotify. Well worth it, they are very enjoyable - DO IT

    18th Studio Album discussion

One crazy idea. Maiden head to the studio with several years worth of ideas from Steve, Adrian, Janick and Bruce. They record around 120+ minutes of new material... and then drip-feed release it in three parts of around 40 minutes each (like the old days, build around one epic per release)...

RUN FOR YOUR LIVES WORLD TOUR (2025/2026)

Problem was between 1983 and 1997 there was basically nothing. So they went into hyperdrive with it now. I liked Mandolorian but avoid most of it. Maiden albums frequency is another topic - can't be too much for us, but the band may opt for another 5 years break and aim for 2026.

    The Future Past Tour 2024

Yes the 90s were Maiden's overall fastest, angriest and heaviest live sound. Far from perfect, but I love that 90s era.

    Replacing Nicko?

The issue is whether Joe has the experience and the massive personality and confidence to pull it off at stadium and arena level. Locked into a band that plays like a freight train, Joe then has to drive it. He idolises them from a young age, and they are around twice his age. It is not only a...

    18th Studio Album discussion

I can also see something special in the studio at some point as a goodbye, without necessarily touring it extensively. If not, then Hell on Earth is the perfect coda. (I was dreading it being Empire of the Clouds, which I find to be an un-Maiden piece to my ears)

    Replacing Nicko?

My view: in Australia this month I saw Nicko linger on stage just that little bit longer after Wasted Years, thanking the crowd by tapping his heart, soaking in all the adulation. Even if no replacement has been decided, Nicko himself knows that if his health ever took another turn he would sit...
