Why did Steve Harris fire Clive Burr ?

???? And there I was just last week recalling how philosophically powerful the story in Long Distance Runner is: Of throwing the race despite grafting so hard to attain excellence. Really applicable to so many experiences so many people have; working hard for a goal and then somehow giving up...

Why did Steve Harris fire Clive Burr ?

Clive was a talented but tragic figure in Maiden's history. Personally as well, to loose your dad at 57 years, and then to personally suffer illness and pass away at just 56 years of age. I do feel for Clive here. For whatever reason, he couldn't drive the band as hard as Steve and Rod wanted...

Great for hearing the precision in Murray & Smith. But woah that tempo! Some may prefer it slow, but compared to 2008 and 2016, what a contrast. Quite understandably it sounds like Simon playing to the guitarists rather than the way Nicko drove it all.

RUN FOR YOUR LIVES 2025 Tour Thread *SPOILERS INSIDE*

Looking forward to London, but somehow this time - for the first time in my 32 years of fandom - something doesn’t feel quite right. It’s in my gut feeling, hard to place it, haven’t felt this before seeing any new Maiden tour ever. Rather than pure excitement I’m inching towards this gig with...

RUN FOR YOUR LIVES 2025 Tour Thread *SPOILERS INSIDE*

I personally agree with the last point: as the history books begin to be written on Maiden’s touring career, I’d place the Legacy of the Beast 2018-19 stage show as the band’s best ever. since it cannot be beaten, good they went down an entirely different route this year.

A heck of a lot depends on them having the good sense to doing exactly this. And also using 2026 for some work on album 18, assuming Harris has the inspiration and focus for it. If this tour drags to 2027 as their only activity I'd be gutted. This is probably the first major Maiden activity...

The Final Frontier: individual album judgement by yours truly

Satellite 15.. The Final Frontier 5 (ruined by the intro) El Dorado 7 Mother of Mercy 4 Coming Home 8 The Alchemist 8 Isle of Avalon 9 Starblind 9 The Talisman 9 The Man Who Would Be King 9 When the Wild Wind Blows 9 7.7 average (i also dislike the cover) Album of two halves for me, it gets...

Great to hear. This is the most 'metallica' that Maiden have gotten in terms of aiming more obviuosly for mass appeal and crowd pleasing in stadiums / festivals / arenas. Doing what the casuals would casually expect and enjoy. Not a bad thing, but a different thing..

To be fair, John McMurtie had an apparently awesome Japan photoshoot booked with the band. He never specified the location, but it was canned because the pandemic started. Which again dates the original Senjutsu promo campaign right to 2020. As for Live Chapter, wasn't that just a streaming...

I agree with that. I also disagree with Maiden's explanation that the stage show production blocks song rotation. Theres not reason not to leave one or two slots lighter on stage effects and open for rotation.

RUN FOR YOUR LIVES 2025 Tour Thread *SPOILERS INSIDE*

Its this kind of thinking that has been missing in Maiden's operation forever. Ever since they ended up with a gargantuan back catalogue and impossible setlist choices. Even one or two rotational slots would change a lot. As you write, equivalents could have been swapping one hit for another...

He has made them sound more metallic and (some might say) more modern. Question is whether it will suit them... I'll wait till I hear it live next month.

Agreed, and these are (for me) the highlights to look forward to. Shame they played it too safe and too repetitively at the end though.

Amazing to think we had these three absolutely killer Maiden tours in a row with excellent theatrical sets and inventive set lists.

Looking forward to London, excited by the first 2/3rds of the set. But glad I'm not going to multiple dates, time to take a step back. Been to single dates in 1998 and 1999, and then multiple dates on BNW, GMETID, DoD, ERuTW, AMOLAD, SBIT, TFF, ME, BOS, LOTB, FP tours. Not sure what it is...

A lot of love for NPFTD here, which I really appreciate. For me there's just the fan desire that all eras are represented. Also, the NPFTD vibe appeals to me for the 50th anniversary because it was more light hearted and hard rock-influenced. Would work with the celebration concept. Feels like...

RUN FOR YOUR LIVES 2025 Tour Thread *SPOILERS INSIDE*

I have a theory about the uninventive encore (I agree with PhantonOfTheOpera, Aces High is not as impactful anymore). Maiden want to go on autopilot themselves for the final 20 minutes? I'm sure the Chruchill Speech gives them an extra dose of adrenaline. On FOTD the crowd does a lot of the...

Simon Dawson is the new drummer

According to the poor sound of a livestream, I thought Simon made Maiden sound more metal and modern. Not to criticise Nicko, but Simon could give them a really good new edge at this late stage.

It was an excellent set, but it ended with a squib. So all that awesome energy from the start and middle kind of drops.... That's how I feel. Finishing the set with the same song 3 out of 4 tours in a row just sucks.
