    Is Iron Maiden overproduced?

The producer would also have an input on performance and arrangements, right? It's not just about the sound. I agree with most of the posts above, I don't think Maiden have ever been overproduced. But, I vastly prefer the sound of the Shirley albums, they are heavier, crunchier and more...

    Worst Possible Setlist

I'd pay to go to a '90s show, but a No Prayer and Fear of the Dark only show? That would be the worst possible setlist. (I'd still go).

    Nicko's drumming technique

I wonder why they had to do that? After all, Nicko had to learn to play it live for the tour. Would it have been time constraints in the studio?

    Nicko's drumming technique

Out of the Shadows - That's great drumming. Crisp, unfussy but with enough going on to fill out the song but not spoil it. Top Nicko work.

    Virtual XI tour cancellations

One for the musicians amongst you... How easy is it for a band like Maiden to tune down to suit a singer? Are we talking about detuning the bass and each guitar by a tone? Certainly on the bass, that would result in a very floppy E string. I would think for Steve and the guitarists the feel of...

It does, you're right. He's definitely a lead bassist at times.

    Nicko's drumming technique

By the way, @SinisterMinisterX, I'm happy to be called out for being wrong, and I'm happy to be disagreed with. But just posting "Bullshit" is plain rude.

    Nicko's drumming technique

@SinisterMinisterX I was writing from my experience of being a metal-loving teenager in the '80s. The majority of metal bands at the start of the '80s used one bass drum. It was the thrash bands that popularized two bass drums and they didn't go overground until '84/'85. By that time Nicko's...

    Nicko's drumming technique

I think it came up on another thread, but I'm a real Clive fan. He was tight as anything but with a real groove. It suited the aggression of those early recordings but gave the band a slight swing, which was, and still is, very rare in metal. Nicko is, to me, much looser than Clive and can...

    Nicko's drumming technique

Re: the double bass thing. Nicko was well established as a drummer before bands started using two bass drums, or the double bass pedals. It would have taken a lot to "re-learn" his technique to accommodate them, if he had wanted to. And he was always clear he didn't really want to. A bit like...

    Sabaton

I was at the front for Anthrax and there was a boy of about nine up there. I was passing crowd surfers over his head til his dad arrived. The boy did not look happy with his dad.

    Returning to old venues

I went to the '05 and '07 CliveAid gigs, I got the tickets on the open market without being a Fanclub member. I think a lot of the more casual fans saw them earlier on the relevant tours and didn't go a second time. (Both gigs were amongst my favourite ever).

    Janick joining Maiden

I was 16 when Janick joined, and a complete Maiden freak. The reaction I remember most when he joined was relief that the band would carry on. I've always been grateful to him for keeping Maiden going! (I know, as an adult, how naïve that is! It's not like they would have struggled to get a...
