The thing is that; in those days, Kiske was also tired of metal, as shown by his most of his input on "Pink Bubbles Go Ape" and "Chameleon". His solo album, Instant Clarity (featuring one Adrian Smith) also had one or two token metal songs "for show" but it was mostly rock.

And still, that's totally the kind of songs Nicko could pop by on at selected venues.

It depends on how many semi-tones. As some mentioned, Dio's songs went like a dream, but Deep Purple's "Perfect Strangers" and Whitesnake's "Fool For Your Loving" are now virtually unrecognisable.

"Hallowed Be Thy Name" is more of a copyright-lawyer-pleaser.

I think it all makes sense: Simon Dawson is - somebody roughly their age (who, eventually, won't claim: "I'm the last remaining Maiden member" in around twenty years) - somebody they get along with (a characteristic that is-I think- more accurate than "being Bri'ish") - somebody who won't have...

Fast forward a few months: it will exciting to hear "the new drummer" open Maiden's next set, provided they open with "Be Quick or Be Dead" (which is a good contender for Run For Your Lives's opening spot).
