Maybe I’m lovestruck but this tops them both. It’s just so melodic and galloping.
I mean, after the verse it has two pre-choruses then the chorus and then just when you thought the song could become no more melodic they hit us with the monstrous post-chorus:
I hear you calling my name
Come to...
I’m with you there mate, this song is colossal!
So glad they released it as a single, gives the song a week or so to enjoy the limelight before rejoining its place within the album. And gives Janick a chance to bask in the glory too!!
Adrian gave us The Wickerman, Davey gave us Rainmaker, and now Janick has given us Stratego…reunion era classic rocker.
I am crying with joy (while sitting in a medical clinic waiting for a Covid vaccination).
Oh those melodies…gives me some real The Evil That Men Do feels.
“I hear you...
Have loved listening to Dave and Adrian’s solos on TWOTW over and over and over and am now exceedingly primed to hear Janick weave some magic on his fretboard with Stratego. Perhaps the other amigos will get another solo too!
Bring. It. On.
Flight Of Icarus
The Evil That Men Do
The Longest Day
When The Wild Wind Blows
The Writing On The Wall
There may be more but I can’t think straight. It’s nearly midnight and I’ve just finished writing a mid-placement assessment. But the above seem to fit the brief.
Agreed with @Mosh
Whilst AMOLAD is arguably my favourite album I feel it would have been even better if it opened with These Colours Don’t Run and perhaps had Different World positioned before TROBB. Longer, more creative openers have worked brilliantly for Maiden…CSIT, Sign of the Cross etc…at...
Absolutely most certainly can and I do! I’ve listened to it many times over the past weekend - pumping main riff, great solos, reflective lyrics from an isolated spaceman!
”I’ve lived a good life!”
I’ve been really getting into TFF (the album) in the build up to Senjutsu. I love the run of 5...
I’ve pre-ordered the silver vinyl but knowing that won’t arrive on the day of release I plan to go to the local metal record store and purchase the deluxe CD book to be able to read the lyrics on the second listen through. First listen through will be with eyes closed so no interruptions between...
Arranging Death Of The Celts and The Parchment the other way around in the track list would have resolved the issue of exceeding maximum side length for a double vinyl album (and therefore less expensive to manufacture)…so I respect the final track list because it shows Steve (and band?) are...
Good question. The dominant colour may be red…blood, logo, writing…it’s prominent despite there being more grey and silver and dark green on the cover.
Thanks man! My post was confusing…TTAL ticks those boxes to be defined as an epic but personally I do not find it “epic”. I guess I meant it is an underwhelming song to me despite being an epic.
Hoping for five or six spectacular sounding epics on Senjutsu!!
Exactly. So epic isn’t defined by song length so much as having multiple parts, tempo changes, not having a verse/chorus/verse structure, and generally a climax or two along the way.
I’m confident we’ll get atleast 5 epics on Senjutsu and not just 5 lengthy songs.
From the Bruce interview in Kerrang I’m intrigued by the interviewer’s following impression of the album:
I’m hoping for epics containing cinematic soundscapes and extended instrumental sections. Bring it on I say.
Silver vinyl edition pre-purchased.
