    Senjutsu - 3rd September 2021

I thought BNW sounded pretty clinical and sterile - too perfect really (particularly the drum sounds). That's both a compliment and a complaint. DOD, TFF were both really boxy and dry to my ears. Sort of like everything was dialed into the middle or something. BOS was slightly better with...

Yeah, I quite like the sound on TWOTW as well as the song. When it comes to these live sounding albums (so, I'd say anything Blaze era and post BNW) it sounds good to me, certainly better than BOS and probably on par with AMOLAD.

Less than 3 weeks to go ya'll, we can make it! I decided to skip on the FC box set as it seems like a massive amount of money to spend on something I'm going to set on a shelf. I'll stick with the regular "cheap" box set which will do the same at 1/3 the cost.

Definitely a Harris trait though these days, for better or worse.

That review came from Deaf Forever's Götz who, if I recall, found the last round of Maiden albums kind of like - BNW- Classic DOD - massively flawed AMOLAD - singular in tone, but high quality TFF - mixed bag BOS - mixed bag So, his review has me pretty excited!

There's another review posted on the official board I haven't seen here yet. Using spoiler tags for those who don't want to read it (also, this is totally copy pasted from there, so kudos to Nagelfar on that board).

I'm also encouraged by the comments on the production being better. I definitely thought TWOTW sounded way clearer and punchier than anything on the last two albums, with a bit more clarity than pretty much anything since BNW. That's kind of a hard song to go by though since it's so simple...

That and he's a fairly straight shooter when it comes to reviewing material. I remember reading an interview with him and Bruce back in 2003 (man, I'm old) right after DoD and he was, not exactly favorable in his review/questions at the time.

    Abandoned Maiden songs

I never listen to Virtual XI as it is pretty awful. Aside from that, I'm not a song skipper - I listen to full Maiden albums when I put one on.

Yeah, I noticed that as well. There were a few mentions of some lyric Harris-isms (lots of words in a short period of time) but not a lot either. I'm intrigued by some of the vocal layering and cinematic effects (title track) that were mentioned as well. Sounds like Death of the Celts will...

    Senjutsu - 3rd September 2021

Dance of Death, if I recall, also got swaths of mediocre reviews from the press and review sites/blogs (seriously, the notion of the rock/metal press having much sway in 2021 is kinda funny). So, unwarranted high praise isn't necessarily guaranteed. At the end of the day, I don't give a shit...

    Senjutsu - 3rd September 2021

Man, that synopsis was really encouraging. I took away that this album will be a pleasant mix of new and slightly familiar which is pretty much exactly what should be expected on a bands 17th album. Based solely on that review, I'm most excited about the title track, Darkest Hour and Hell on...

Countdown to Senjutsu. 17 albums in 17 days.

This is a great idea for a thread, and something I also do prior to every Maiden album release! That being said, I was feeling over eager this time so I already started on my discography run-through last week. This way I'm doing each album, one a day, for two consecutive days up until the...

I think I see a loose string on one of the guitars in the background, clearly this album was made so quickly they didn't even tune! (*sarcasm)

    Senjutsu - 3rd September 2021

Yeah, it's not like they've spent 6 years toiling over new songs. For better or worse, they've always (at least since the mid-ish 80s) done the "so what do we have ready" kind of thing.

    Senjutsu - 3rd September 2021

The date is obviously a typo. I'm really curious what these "different for Maiden" kind of songs are going to be. I can't imagine The Writing on the Wall falling into that bucket as it's not super atypical Maiden, so what do we think? The only thing I could think of was maybe incorporating...

    Senjutsu - 3rd September 2021

Also, worth pointing out that - 2000 - 2010 - money made from record/DVD sales 2011 - now - no money made from record/DVD sales Maiden is a business. They'd release material if they deemed it worthy and if it made financial sense to do so. As fans we should be thankful they actually do...

    Senjutsu - 3rd September 2021

It's also helpful to remember we are less than 30 days from the album being released. I know time seems to be moving slowly, it always does after the initial rush of the newness starts to wear off. People complained of the exact same things in 2015 (no news, not enough press, etc) - September...
