    What's the matter with FOTD?

Things I don't like about the FotD album: (most of) the songs, rubbish lyrics, the production, and Bruce's vocals. Breaking it down a bit further: 1. The songs. I don't want to repeat what has already been written by others in this thread, but there is a high proportion of crap songs on FotD...

'Remastered for iTunes' - All albums re-released! Discuss.

I strongly recommend that anyone listening to music via a laptop purchase a headphone amp. I bought one about two months ago and the difference that it makes is astonishing. Most laptop soundcards can't drive the dynamic range of your headphones. I bought a $100 headphone amp that includes a...

I Won A Bunch of Maiden Vinyl

Wow, great prize! My favourite Maiden-related win was a Fear of the Dark press pack; interview on VHS tape and a copy of the album, stored in a glow-in-the-dark box. Won it through a magazine competition. Favourite items in my collection are wrist sweatbands - I have two Steves and one Dave...

Book Of Souls: Rate each song out of 10, give an overall rating!

    1. If Eternity Should Fail 5/5 - a fantastic start to the album, and I hope that they open the live shows with this one. 2. Speed of Light 4/5 - solid, up-tempo number, good crunchy riffs and nice solos. 3. The Great Unknown 2.5/5 - an okay song, not particularly memorable. 4. The Red and the...

Thoughts on Powerslave - input for podcast

I like that on the "new" live performances of the song they have added not just the third guitar part but also the keyboards as well. It provides a fuller sound during the chorus. As for the song in general, I really admire the ambition behind it both from a musical and lyrical perspective. It...

    Favorite Bootlegs

My favourite bootlegs are: Ullevi show mentioned above (great setlist, awesome crowd) Globen Stockholm (AMoLaD setlist, plus Bruce is on fire with his crowd banter) War Machine (Wembley during the No Prayer on the Road Tour, good setlist, great to hear Public Enema Number One played live)

Iron Maiden Tourbook value to collectors

They are totally different from each other. The blue one came first, and is quite text-heavy, with a lot of interesting information. The black one came after the Donington '88 show, has only a couple of pages of text, and totally different photos from the earlier tour programme. I like them...

Iron Maiden Tourbook value to collectors

I have both of the 7th tour books that you mention i.e. the blue and the black cover. From memory they cost me around US$25 - back in 1988 :-) I don't think that they are rare as such, the 7th Tour was very successful, so there should be plenty of them about (as opposed to the Blaze-era books...

    Paul is on it again.

I'm not going to defend his choice of insult, but I don't blame Paul for having a go at the guy in the crowd. It is a Paul Dianno concert, not an Iron Maiden one. I get sick of hearing people call out "Slash!!" during modern Guns n' Roses shows. But yelling Bruce's name at a Paul show is...

Kevin Shirley is mixing more Maiden..

I hope that it isn't a Maiden England 2013 show. The setlist, whilst brilliant for those that attended the shows, is too similar to other live material already released. And given that the Rio show was broadcast around the world, and available in many formats all over the web, I can't see it...

Maiden England '88 + History Part 3 coming March 25th!

Hmmmm....my DVD is region 0 (i.e. region free). My wife and I both noticed the change - but it is possible that we both misheard it (only watched the concert DVD once so far). I am starting to doubt myself now - I will rewatch over the weekend and update. If it is cut the I will try to do a wee...

Maiden England '88 + History Part 3 coming March 25th!

Not sure whether this has already been discussed in this thread, apologies if I have missed it.... There appears to have been a change made to Die With Your Boots On. My original VHS of Maiden England has Bruce saying "You all *fucking* die!!" during the bridge section, whereas my DVD version...

Maiden England '88 + History Part 3 coming March 25th!

That is great news! It looks as though they will talk about the strains within the band of the time of SiT and 7th Son. That should be very interesting to watch. I am a little disappointed with the 2nd disc in the set though - I was hoping for some Monsters of Rock '88 footage. The promo...

    Warsaw or Berlin

Probably too late to pitch-in with advice, but here goes. I visited both Berlin and Warsaw within a few days of each other. My wife and I both found Warsaw to be more interesting. This was mainly because of how different it is to most of the "typical" European cities. I was fascinated by the...

Rumor of Maiden/Avenged Sevenfold tour next year

"I'm not sure how legit it is but thought I'd post it regardless." When the source of the information isn't even sure whether it is true or not.....it probably isn't.

    Album Closers

I don't tend to use the word "experimental" when describing the album closers. Looking at the list of songs, I prefer the term "progressive". For me, if you were to put each of those tracks onto a single album, you would have one of the finest progressive metal albums ever recorded.
