    Flight of Icarus

'flight Of Icarus' Granted, the song doesn't have much to do with the Greek myth, but I really like this song, it's one of my favourite songs on that album. I also think that the faster pace on LAD destroys the vibe of the song, it simply takes all the energy from it. Anyway, the studio version...

    The Trooper

'the Trooper' A metal classic, period. The guitar sound is reminiscent of galopping horses, which creates a very vibrating atmosphere. On the other hand this sound has been used before (anyone knowing Hard Lovin' Man by Deep Purple?). Still I only give it 4 stars because it's a bit too simple...

    To Tame a Land

'to Tame A Land' A great epic in the vein of Phantom Of The Opera and Hallowed Be Thy Name, though the lyrics are a bit difficult to understand unless you know about Dune. The intro bit is beautiful, making the guitars coming in directly afterwards sound much heavier. I also like the way the...

    Die With Your Boots On

'die With Your Boots On' A fairly average song on the album, not too bad, but nothing special, except for the vague lyrics which require a bit more thinking.

    Where Eagles Dare

'where Eagles Dare' A great opener, showcasing Nicko's drumming. Could it be that this song is the first one they wrote to be based on a movie? The middle section with this machine-gun like sound really stands out on this one.

    The Number of the Beast

A good song, with a classic intro and great guitar work. Bruce sounds great on this one as well, as does Clive. On the other hand, the song has been overplayed, they could really do something like Children Of The Damned or 22 Acacia Avenue instead.

    Run to the Hills

'run To The Hills' A true metal classic, though it's a bit overplayed these days. Great drumming, great lyrics, great screaming vocals by Bruce. They could have been a bit more creative with the chorus, but that's about the only negative thing about this song.

    The Prisoner

'the Prisoner' To me it's one of the weaker songs on the album (but still one of the best songs they've ever written). I especially dig the intro part and the heavy drumming coming right behind that.

    Hallowed Be Thy Name

'hallowed Be Thy Name' Well, most things about this song have already been said. The opening is very atmospheric, the lyrics are very thoughtful, and then it takes off in the second part. This is one of the few songs where I like the studio recording much better than the live versions, simply...

    22, Acacia Avenue

'22, Acacia Avenue' A great song, very interesting lyrics and lots of changes in speed and rhythm. One of the best songs on the album and a real classic. I bet today you would have to pay a bit more than 15 quid, though.

    Children of the Damned

'children Of The Damned' One of my all time faves. It has it all, great guitars with some acoustic ones in between, a heavy chorus, then this fast second part with a stunning guitar solo. Bruce's voice also carries a lot of emotion on this one.

    Invaders

'invaders' A good opener for a great album, but somewhat short and lacking the extra special ingredient to make it a memorable classic.

    Gangland

'gangland' Compared to the rest of the album this song is pretty weak, but they have written worse songs in their career. The drum intro has something special to it, making it a bit better than an average 3.

    Total Eclipse

'total Eclipse' One of the heaviest songs they ever did, I'll never understand why they made it only a b-side in the first place. Thanks to CD it's now included on the album, and it fits very well in there.

Remember Tomorrow from the Number... single

Well, the fake is quite obvious, as Bruce would have never screamed in the intro part the way he does here. Could somebody please explain me why they included this one on the Best Of The B-Sides, instead of Massacre?

    Prodigal Son

'prodigal Son' A very experimental song, with it's acoustic guitar and some very strange lyrics. Somehow it still fits onto the album, though it's completely different. Or maybe it fits _because_ it is different, who knows?

    Drifter

'drifter' One of my least favourites on the album. Maybe it's the lyrics, I don't know. On a positive side, Paul really delivers the goods on this song. The scream right at the end must have been pretty hard to do.

    Twilight Zone

'twilight Zone' Not necessarily one of my faves on the album. Not bad, but nothing outstanding to be found here.

    Genghis Khan

'genghis Khan' One of my faves on the album, with its intriguing rhythms and unbelievable drumming by Clive. They could have left out the guitars in the first 90 seconds and turn it into a drum solo, just great. Easily the best instrumental they ever wrote.

    The Ides of March

'the Ides Of March' Hehe, have to agree, this song is way too short. Cool drums, a great solo, but too f***in' short, that's why it did not get 5 stars.
