The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner

'the Loneliness Of The Long Distance Runner' To me it's a very good song. The best part are the first 50 seconds, before Bruce kicks in. The verses themselves do not really fit to that intro I think, but the solo and the ending make up for that.

    Heaven Can Wait

'heaven Can Wait' My least favourite on the album. That ohooooh-type of chorus is repeated all over again, so the song could easily be like two minutes shorter, making it more compact.

    Deja Vu

'deja-vu' A good song, but not among my favourites. The harmony parts in the middle are great.

    Caught Somewhere In Time

'caught Somewhere In Time' The opening of the song sounds quite, well, synthesizer like. Must have been quite a shock to some of the fans, and it's certainly miles apart from Killers. A good and fairly complex song, but IMHO a bit too long. Four stars.

    Sea of Madness

'sea Of Madness' A somewhat weird song to my ears, it definitely has something to it which is interesting, but at the same time makes listening to it quite difficult. It's not among my favourites on the album, but it's still a good one.

    Stranger in a Strange Land

'stranger In A Strange Land' A great song, interesting lyrics, a good mix of complexity while remaining a very compact type of song and among the best singles they ever did. Ah well, and that guitar solo is just... well, I'm lost for words to describe its greatness. But I think it wouldn't be...

    Wasted Years

Re: Daily Song: Caught Somewhere in Time A great melodic song with a pretty catchy chorus. To me one of the best singles they ever released.

    Alexander the Great

'alexander The Great' Wow, there's been some serious discussion about this song, which is great to see. Musically, this song has to get five stars for its complexity, if they had written better lyrics it would have been five stars overall.

    Aces High

'aces High' This was one of the very first Maiden songs that I heard, and I was hooked instantly. It's just the perfect opener with a perfect chorus, and IMHO it has one of the best solos H ever played, making it very easy to visualize those planes turning and diving while fighting each other.

    Rime of the Ancient Mariner

'rime Of The Ancient Mariner' One of the best songs Steve has ever written, period. Complex songwriting, very interesting lyrics, lots of great guitar stuff. However, I think this song is simply too long, especially because of the boring middle section. I usually skip right to 7:30 when the...

    Powerslave

To me it's the best song on the album (yeah I know that ROTAM comes right behind it). The intro is very atmospheric, the lyrics are inspired and the solo is just stunning. Five stars, hands down.

    2 Minutes to Midnight

'2 Minutes To Midnight' This one has been played far too often. I just cannot listen to it anymore. Well, maybe they play it so often because it's a really good composition. It's quite lengthy for a single, but it manages to keep you interested. Four stars, it could have been more if it was a...

    Flash of the Blade

'flash Of The Blade' A good song with a very catchy intro bit and some cool harmony stuff in the middle. There are better songs on the album, but this song is still above average.

    Losfer Words (Big 'Orra)

'losfer Words (big 'orra)' IMHO it's kind of a filler track on the album. It's not bad actually, but they have written better instrumentals (just take a look at the Killers album). A fairly average song.

    The Duellists

'the Duellists' Have to agree with the other here, great instrumental stuff on this song. Otherwise the song tends to bore me, I don't know why. Bruce also sounds a bit too hasty on this song, making his vocals sound fairly thin.

    Back in the Village

'back In The Village' A solid song, but it somehow lacks something. I can't tell exactly, I just think the song is weaker than the rest of the album.

    Revelations

'revelations' The best song on the album, together with To Tame A Land. I just wish I could figure out what the lyrics are about. Heavy guitars, great harmonies, great rhythm shifts - it's all there. Five stars, period.

    Sun and Steel

'sun And Steel' One of the weaker tracks on the album, but blessed with a great chorus and very interesting lyrics (as long as you are into this kind of stuff, anyway).

    Quest For Fire

'quest For Fire' When looking up the definition of "filler track" one should be pointed to this one. Stupid lyrics and musicwise it's also sub par, especially when comparing it to the rest of the album.

    Still Life

'still Life' A great song with very intriguing lyrics and one of my favourites on the album. I really like the beginning of the song, it just conveys such a lot of feeling. Then the song gets heavier, as if the person is slowly drifting into madness. Just great.
