    Purgatory

Maiden's fastest song! The main riff and harmonies are excellent, and Paul also gives a great performance with his delivery of some catchy vocal lines. This one is so fast, in fact, that it's over before you know it. One of Maiden's best rockers for sure. 8/10
  2. TheSpectreWithin

    Prodigal Son

The placement of this song is quite odd, being directly after something as dark as Killers. The tone shift is really off-putting. The use of acoustic guitars is something different for Maiden. Unfortunately, they don't really succeed here, but it's not a terrible song either. Another...

    Killers

By far the best song on the album. The intro is frantic with some great guitar/bass interplay. The ascending harmonics played by Dave set the mood perfectly, bringing to mind the sound of metal (in this case a knife). There's an early showcase of the trademark Iron Maiden gallop during the...

    Innocent Exile

More excellent bass from Steve, but there isn't a whole lot to say about this one. It's pretty forgettable due to the lazy lyrics and lack of interesting guitar parts. 6/10

    Your First Maiden Gig ?

April 17, 2011 - Tampa, FL (The Final Frontier World Tour). Two rows from the barrier, caught Janick's wristband during Running Free. Incredible show!

    Your Maiden blasphemy

It's just hard to believe that a fan of Maiden could hate HBTN. If there ever was a song that perfectly showcases what the band is all about, it would have to be that one. It's not my favorite, but I certainly consider it one of their best. To each their own of course, but...wow...that one's...

    This or That Maiden Song

Van Halen (Roth era) vs Van Halen (Hagar era)

The only Hagar era album I really like is 5150, which is admittedly fantastic. However, the rest are overall pretty boring and missing the edge the band once had. The Roth era is classic, with the only weak entry being Diver Down. I also love A Different Kind of Truth.

    Genghis Khan

I liked Transylvania on the debut, but this is even better. All the musicians really shine here. The intro is powerful, with some really great drum rolls from Clive. His playing is really intricate on this track, similar to his performance on Phantom. I really love the riff that comes in at...

    Another Life

A quick piece of filler. The only part I usually remember is the odd timed harmony, which is pretty cool. Decent tune, but nothing great. 6/10
  11. TheSpectreWithin

    Murders in the Rue Morgue

Begins somber but picks up really quick with some great guitar melodies. Excellent, catchy chorus with matching guitar. I absolutely love the guitar harmonies during the bridge. The verses are fast and fun, but probably the weakest part. Overall a very good song, probably second best to the...

    Wrathchild

A really fun rocker, with a great chorus and some spectacular bass work. Steve is all over the place on the early material and it's awesome. Di'anno delivers an ear shattering scream and performs well. Although, I don't think I'm alone when saying Bruce does this song much better. 7/10
  13. TheSpectreWithin

    The Ides of March

Good way to open the album instead of just starting with Wrathchild. The production is also noticeably better from the last one. There's some cool guitar licks in here, but nothing to rave about. A solid way to kick off both H and Martin Birch's tenures with the band. 7/10

Five years later: The Final Frontier revisited

The Final Frontier has some great tracks, but none I would consider a 10/10. Starblind and Wild Wind are my favorites, but they don't quite reach that lofty rating. All of the other post-reunion albums have at least 1 song that is an absolute classic. This makes TFF my least favorite of the...

    Your Maiden blasphemy

Agreed. Both solos are utterly spectacular! Really? Blood Brothers is a 10/10 for me. It has some of my favorite melodies in any Maiden song and the lyrics are some of Steve's best.

Tournament of Maiden Solos: the Top 10 video!

Close call, but I'll take Dave's Phantom solo.
  17. TheSpectreWithin

    Iron Maiden

The intro has a very unusual harmony, as the guitars are playing slightly different melodies. It sounds sinister, which works well for the subject matter, but that's really the only memorable part. It's a bit dull overall, not worthy to be the band's eponymous song. I would be fine if this was...

    Charlotte the Harlot

Charlotte the Harlot isn't a bad song, far from one of Maiden's worst. It has a good riff that interacts nicely with Steve's awesome bass line, and a catchy chorus. Some find the melody a little too happy, but I think it fits well with the tongue-in-cheek lyrics we are presented with. I prefer...

    Strange World

This is a song I didn't appreciate at first, but one day it clicked with me. The clean guitar work and ethereal atmosphere remind me of some later Maiden songs e.g Heaven Can Wait, Infinite Dreams, and Starblind. Tied with Transylvania for 2nd best track on the debut. 8/10

    Transylvania

This instrumental has an excellent groove, being in 12/8. The guitar riffs and melodies are awesome, but it's Clive and Steve who really drive this track. It features some awesome fills, and one of my favorite bass lines. 8/10
