This is a good summary of my first impressions too. Disc 1 has two powerhouses on it, but the other tracks either aren't all that great or are going to prove to be growers.
Disc 2 on the other hand...
Man, that Mark Wilkinson artwork is downright stunning! Why haven't the band been using this guy through out the whole post-reunion era?! Easily the best artist the band's worked with since Riggs.
I haven't seen Safety Not Guaranteed yet, so I can't comment on his directing in that film, but I don't think Trevorrow is much of an "actor's director." Especially in comparison to Abrams or Johnson. They both have their own idiosyncratic styles with their films, certainly, but both are praised...
Yeah, I heard about it last night. I have mixed feelings on the matter. Colin Trevorrow is hardly the worst director that they could have gotten, but he just feels like a step down from both J.J. Abrams and Rian Johnson. Jurassic World was a fun watch, but it wasn't particularly great either...
It's definitely a grower. I really like Bruce's voice on the song, so it should be interesting to see if he maintains that vocal style through out the album.
I think there's actually a really great production somewhere here for TBoS. It's just been meddled with in the mastering or something. Bruce and the guitars sound incredible.
Promised Land deserves a lot more love than it gets these days. Great album. However, I also think it'd be wise for Queensryche to play more material from their two albums with Todd La Torre on vocals live now too. It'd probably be more comfortable for him to sing that stuff too.
Anywho, back...
