I personally think they keep pulling out that line because they are too tired from a life of making complex albums and now just want to make albums which are easier and straightforward to make. That way they can play it in concert and people can think 'it sounds just like it does on the album!'...
I can't stand how every time Maiden announces an album and you start to read about the 'Making Of The Album' in which they say stuff like "Yeah it all happened very smoothly, we went in the studio and finished 4 songs in 2 days and the rest of the songs were made up on the spot and we instantly...
First of all, AMOLAD for me is in the top 3 of best Maiden albums. I might even put it at number 1 due to it having the most amount of songs I really like on one album.
Now, when it comes to the mixing/mastering there are indeed issues like you said. Some stuff sounds way too much in the...
Btw the song is totally better when you dont watch the videoclip. While the video is fun to watch and all, it ruins the song. Music and video simply don't match, especially not in Maiden's case.
Im 29 and started listening to Maiden in 2005. I've been to 3 Maiden concerts and had my fill of the 'classics' by the 2nd time already. If it was up to me I'd rather have Maiden not play many of their classics anymore and focus on underplayed or unplayed songs from their catalogue.
Of course...
You know for years now I always thought Kevin Shirley is kinda crappy. I don't have any knowledge about mastering or producing an album but my gut feeling always said 'this guy kinda sucks' to me. I'm starting to believe it more now. He just can't mix albums well I think. It's always a bit messy.
I don't listen to and don't really like their more popular songs like Number of the Beast, Run to the Hills, Aces High, Iron Maiden and Can I Play With Madness.
First new album I was there at at release since I became a fan was AMOLAD. It's always nice to hear newer fans talking about their first Maiden album release :)
Talisman is pretty good except for the chorus which I am personally not a fan of. I love that fast loud kickoff after the long slow intro. Though you gotta admit it's a ripoff of The Legacy :P
I ordered them through my prefered way of hearing them in concert.
1. Ides of March (2)
2. Prowler (1)
3. El Dorado (15)
4. To Tame A Land (4)
5. Paschendale (13)
6. Sign of the Cross (10)
7. Mother Russia (8)
8. Hallowed Be Thy Name (3)
9. The Nomad (12)
10. 2 Minutes to Midnight (5)
11...
As it stands now, El Dorado is the best song on the album for me. I outgrew Isle of Avalon. I outgrew Starblind. I outgrew WTWWB and The Man Who Would be King years ago. I might even say I dislike those songs, save for the dreamy intro of Isle of Avalon.
I really don't like the chorus of GotN. It's so whiny and besides that, I don't like the chord progression or the melody in how it's sang? It's almost ALMOST like a nursery rhyme the way it goes up and down. It's just something personal I guess. And then the follow-up chorus...ehh idk something...
Oh definitely. For a while I thought that Brave New World was my favorite Maiden album until I realized how long certain songs dragged on. The WORST offender for me personally is Ghost of the Navigator. A good sounding song that is totally ruined by the endless chorus repeats to the point that...
Yeah I think Harris means more of a 'recorded in one go' sound, where effects are minimum and the guitar sound levels are more in your face.
I have no problems with a few songs doing just that, though to be honest I don't like Maiden's short "Rock" songs. I prefer complex, epic, melodic, longer...
