What does that mean? What about CoC lacks substance?
Dream Theater managed to fit wankery into some of the most well-composed, catchy songs. It’s why they’ve vastly eclipsed Fates or Queensryche in popularity (even though both have technically better singers).
The 90s Dream Theater and Corrosion of Conformity hate happening here is insane.
Y’all need new ears if you’re hating on Images & Words, Metropolis, Deliverance and Wiseblood.
I think this is a huge negative. It completely takes me out of the album and makes it feel like a collection of songs, rather than something coherent.
Nightwish's terrible sounding new album is for the exact opposite reason to Maiden's - they aren't testing on basic gear. Steve Harris decided...
Which is an interesting thing to comment on considering I think the drum sound is one of the only highlights of Shirley's post-BNW Maiden output.
I think the work ethics are set by the leader - and that's Steve Harris. If Steve wants it to sound raw, and he's happy with Kevin's work no matter...
A music producer is a middle manager. A very highly skilled, sometimes creative technician whose job it is to handhold an artist through the process of getting their music recorded.
Some artists like working with producers who have a lot more free reign in the studio and assist with song notes...
There are quite a few bad songs in Maiden's discography. Songs that I would rate a 2-3/10.
But there are only five songs by Iron Maiden that I would rate as a 1/10. The absolute bottom of the barrel...
Drifter
Gangland
The Apparition
Weekend Warrior
The Angel and the Gambler
The Wicker Man and Rainmaker are the absolute best.
Next, probably Futureal.
After that it's a toss up between Judas, BQOBD, and The Alchemist, all of which are great for different reasons.
I don't understand. Are you implying that there is some sort of homosexual undertone or euphemisms hidden in the works of Judas Priest?!
I, for one, fail to hear anything other than pure heavy metal thunder and overt heterosexual themes from songs like Raw Deal and Hard As Iron!
"Eat Me Alive!" screams the Grinder you shall consume! You want to Ram It Down, but that sandwich is a real Jawbreaker! Even after all that Dead Meat you are Never Satisfied!
I truly don't think this is possible.
Off the top of my head, I would say....Ghost of the Navigator, For the Greater Good of God, and The Book of Souls.
But ask me tomorrow and I'll give you three different songs. The reunion is simply too stuffed with great material to only pick three.
Someone has finally done it - they've made me, although completely inadvertently, vote for Jugulator.
Somewhere in between the heavier, modern approach and the classic heavy metal approach is my actual answer. My top Priest albums are Painkiller, Firepower, Screaming for Vengeance, Invincible...
I also have to go with Hell on Earth here, though by a very slim margin.
The storybook nature of DoD's lyrics, while usually one of Maiden's strengths, just feels so silly.
Have fun @Brigantium!
I also missed them a couple times and then was lucky enough to catch them twice last year (once in a small venue, once opening for Powerwolf in a big theatre). The small venue show was infinitely better.
Forbidden is truly terrible. As you’ve said, it has zero redeeming qualities. When not even Iommi can salvage a Sabbath record, you know it’s bottom the barrel.
I think this says it all. St. Anger, despite being atrocious, is emotionally honest and at least tries to do something new. Forbidden...
