I think a lot of the elements of extreme metal are an exaggeration of what metal is, brought to self parody levels. If there's a spectrum of what metal is, then Ted is a lot closer to what all the best bands Maiden, Metallica, Judas Priest, Black Sabbath do than ott drumming and grunting vocals...
