    The Man Of Sorrows

The ballad parts are classic Dave Murray, and his intro solo is awesome. I think perhaps this song would have worked better had the balladic feel been kept throughout, like "Out Of The Shadows". I also think the off the cuff spontaneous songwriting employed for most of the album only really hurt...

    Empire Of The Clouds

I really think this track deserves a few more listens before I could give my definitive thoughts on it. It's going to take at least 2 or 3 more listens for me to fully absorb the song. At that point, I will share my thoughts on it. xD

    If Eternity Should Fail

Glad to see someone else who views BYDTTS as being one of the truly great Maiden songs. I know it's not a view shared by most, but for me, it is one of the band's classic tracks. Bruce should really write more songs, as he is a great songwriter.

    If Eternity Should Fail

The last album featured the worst opening track on any Maiden album, yet this one is amongst their very best opening numbers. It feels much shorter than it's 8+ minutes, and is an awesome mix of metal magic and searing melodrama. Mid-paced songs don't usually work well as openers, but it's this...

    The Great Unknown

This song is very much a grower. My initial impression of the song was very lukewarm, as there's nothing about it which really leaps out on initial listenings, apart from H's dramatic solo. It's sound is very much in the AMOLAD vein, and like many of that album's songs, it's true worth only...

    When The River Runs Deep

This is a brilliant song! Maiden rarely make full throttle barnstormers these days, and whilst the frantic pace isn't kept up throughout the song, the slower chorus is a grower, and H's hypnotic solo elevates the song to higher plateau. I have a feeling this is going to be one of the songs on...

    The Man Of Sorrows

This song had huge potential to be one of the band's absolute classic songs, but is held back from being one by a couple of niggling frustrating flaws. Dave's intro solo, the ballad verses, and the chorus are just amazing, but the song as a whole, doesn't flow as well as it should. The heavier...

    Speed Of Light

I think this is an incredible song, and it really stands out on the album, as it's the only song on it which has a really upbeat feel to it. I just learned how to play this song today on guitar, and it is immense fun to play and sing along to as well. For me, it's the best lead single for a...

Tournament of Maiden Solos: the Top 10 video!

I chose Dave's Judas Be My Guide intro solo, and and H's Dance Of Death solo.

Exactly. His vocals are very much a throwback to the early 90's era Maiden vocals, with that gravelly, rasping quality to them. The intro scream reminds me very much of the intro scream on Be Quick Or Be Dead, which is another very underrated Maiden song for me.

Speed of Light - Official Music Video Thread

I dunno if anyone else has felt this, but the raw, back to basics feel of this song reminds me a bit of the No Prayer album. Which is an irony, seeing as two songs from that album are referenced in the video. The song lacks the darker edge much of that album's material had, but the raw...

It could also be a game reference. I also thought of Quest For Fire, but that would be such an obscure choice of song to be referenced in the video. I guess you could also call BYDTTS and Holy Smoke obscure choices, but they were hit singles, even though they have been largely ignored in...

Me too, but I'd be surprised if the dinosaur was a deliberate reference to that song. lol

The video is awesome, though perhaps you need to be a video game fan to truly appreciate it. For anyone who is interested, these are all the game+Maiden references combinations: 1. Game reference: Donkey Kong/Maiden references: Bring Your Daughter... To The Slaughter, and Holy Smoke 2. Game...

Speed of Light - Official Music Video Thread

I am one of the older fans, and I think the song is great. Without a doubt better than the overrated "Wicker Man" for me. About Nicko, I actually loved his playing on this song. His performance is more urgent and lively than on some songs he recorded nearly 20 years ago, which considering his...

Speed of Light - Official Music Video Thread

The song is bloody awesome! Definitely the best lead-off single since "Man On The Edge" 21 years ago. It's vibrant, surging, and extremely catchy, and H yet again, gives a fantastic display in the lead guitar department. If that weren't enough, the video is absolutely superb. As a huge fan of...

Anyone Seen Back In The Village Performed Live?

The setlist for that 1992 Auckland show on Setlist FM doesn't have "Invaders" on it. In the absence of any actual evidence that the song was played at that show, I have to assume that it wasn't, and therefore, has never been played live.

Anyone Seen Back In The Village Performed Live?

As far as I know, "Back In The Village" has never been played live, not in concert anyway. I do know that "The Lonelieness Of The Long Distance Runner" was played live only once, which was on the very first date of "Somewhere On Tour". After which it was dropped, and never played live ever...
