I'm fine with any new story as long as they retain the Saturday morning serial/Greek mythology mashup aesthetic. That is essentially the DNA of Star Wars that runs through all of the existing trilogies.
Things will suck if they attempt the 'Lewis & Clark' discovery expeditions of Star Trek, or...
Isn't Adrian's wife Canadian? I also thought that his primary house was in Vancouver (not that all that explains the Canadian affinity, but it's interesting nonetheless).
No love lost is an awesome song. I know a lot of people wrote them off with this record because of the grooves and the production, but I thought it was badass.
Meet and Greets can be a cool experience if the band is smaller, but at Maiden's level, it would just be a cattle call/assembly line. I'm glad the band hasn't gone down that road.
You totally forgot the version with the extended crowd singalong version (10 minutes of audience participation only focusing on the middle high scream part).
The most popular would likely be Metallica in terms of pure sales/ongoing media exposure. Black Sabbath probably retains the title of most respected.
I think Maiden is the "most envied". Millions in the bank, sold out world wide arena tours in every corner of the globe, no major personnel...
I have to give them credit - just when I thought they were out of obvious tie-ins/call backs to the 80s to use for touring purposes (no more greatest hits albums or retro tours to use once Maiden England was done), they come up with something else...
Type O Negative was famous for not doing the PR spin (Peter Steele was bluntly honest to hilarious effect; I'm sure the record company was thrilled). Primus, Devin Townsend, and Tool also were also more coy/cryptic in their album assessments out of the gate. Maiden is very old school in their...
The DOD statement is interesting.
One of my minor quibbles with Maiden has been their ridiculous hyperbole that surrounds every album release. I still remember when Steve said that NPFTD was 'hand on heart the best thing they've ever done' ....they say it every frickin' album...
I dunno... I'm having Star Wars fatigue right now. Releasing a new SW movie every year is diluting the overall enjoyment of the series for me.
SW movies used to feel like events. Releasing all of these new movies just feels like they'll be disposable vanilla action flicks that fade away from...
Pyromania was the album that got me hooked on to rock music in general so I always have a soft spot for DL. Now....they pretty much lost the plot after Hysteria, and have never recovered.
Didn't the Maiden football team beat DL in a match in the 80s? I think I remember reading that.
Love seeing only the good die young up so high. Rime, Hallowed, ATG etc... are better individual songs, but in terms of wrapping up an album narrative and finishing the story, OTGDY is an amazing closer.
I think Maiden would look absolutely ridiculous if they attempted the 'macho Pantera swagger' whilst the stilt walker and 20 foot inflatable puppets were going on in the background.
I think some of his on stage antics are tongue in cheek.
Between Dave and Nicko's constant smiling, Bruce's theatrics, and Janick's goofiness, Iron Maiden have a "happy" stage presence...which is a welcome relief from the usual dour "hard-ass felon" look that every other metal band seems to go for.
I agree - I was actually shocked that a studio would fund a sequel and allow Villeneuve to film it in his contemplative/surreal style (that honors the original, but adds its own flavor). 2049 is so unlike most other Hollywood sci-fi. I really felt like I was watching a future classic to be...
Agree with everyone who thinks this is underrated - has a very 70s 'classic rock' vibe. Surprised it was never picked up in rotation by rock radio back in the day.
