For me it was playing Rime on the 86/87 tour. It seemed odd to recycle the "showstopper epic" from the previous tour as Maiden usually reserves that spot for the current album epic (would have been ATG). It also took up quite a bit of room in the setlist.

Complete agree. Lots of hyperbole. The irony is that the band is big enough to do whatever they want. I get that their "standard" tours only have so much room for setlist additions (well...at least how the band has historically constructed them), but there is zero reason why they couldn't do...

Prophecy and Apparition sound like regular old fashioned solid Maiden songs IMO. I wouldn't classify either one as prog. Prophecy builds wonderfully to the quintessential 80s era " Bruce belting it out" chorus. Apparition builds nicely to the instrumental section. Neither one of them...
