Classic albums and famous bands you don't like

They weren't the creators of anything except modern music marketing. They didn't invent rock, they didn't create beat music, they didn't create psychedelic. They were a skiffle band originally and turned to Beat when it was hip in he bars. They were the first band to have huge success with that...

Classic albums and famous bands you don't like

My music approach is weird, so that's just normal. For example, even though I am craving for Metal, I don't like Rock music. Because if I want heavy music, I want HEAVY music. I don't see the sense in making heavy-ish music, you know what I mean... Admittedly I never paid much attention to the...

    Weekend Warrior

Totally underrated song. Heavy by Maiden standards, catchy, awesome lead guitars. Yes there is some AC/DC vibe, but much less so than with Chains of Misery, The Apparition or FHTE. I generally prefer Maiden's darker side, and this one is not part of it, but for their happier tracks, this one is...

Iron Maiden's management: What went wrong?

Exactly! The RnRHOF is a pathetic community based on cash flow, bribes and personal preferences of the board. Being induced there is not an honour, it is being part of a self-serving show. If Rod really told them to fuck off, then he has my respect. Just like Axl, who did not give a fuck and did...

Iron Maiden's management: What went wrong?

Sorry, but this is mostly nonsense. This theory is based on the premise that success is determined by management alone. Which is of course not the case. Songwriting, stage presence and likeability obviously play an important role, such as musical trends. Management can only work with what the...

    Bathory

Insane to see that a Bathory thread got absolutely no replies. They had a major impact on pretty much all extreme subgenres of Metal and went through several distinct phases in their career. Can't say I like every album they ever did, but they had good stuff in every era. Subsequently, my fave...

    Sign of the Cross

The album closes with The Unbeliever, which I find the weakest track on X-Factor, so that leaves a foul taste when the album fades out. With Sign of the Cross, it would have ended on a very strong note. I think it might have helped the record. It does work as the opener, but Lord of the Flies...

Classic albums and famous bands you don't like

Is that a compliment or pure scorn? Yes. Billions of times. Pretty much every day. But never with The Doors, no. I admit that this is unique. But I am glad that nobody else did that. Haven't heard that one in decades. Just for you, I re-listen to it while typing my answer. I don't want to pop...

    Sign of the Cross

I only know that one from Rock In Rio. 8.5/10. Much heavier sound, which definitely helps the track. The overlong middle section is still the same problem. The fans clapping completely out of sync in the beginning are also mildly annoying.

    18th Studio Album discussion

Did you ever hear terms like post-production, quantisizing, drum triggers, post-editing and overdubs? Of course it would easily be possible to make him sound up to scratch even if they record live. It is just more work for the engineer. Other than that: 30 pages of discussion about something...

Classic albums and famous bands you don't like

AC/DC - Bon Scott era is okay but not exciting, BJ is not my cup of tea, fan base is annoying, everything after Hells Bells is cringe. Led Zeppelin - everybody loves them because everybody loves them. 3 good songs are enough to become a legend, it seems. The Doors - if Jim Morrison had not...

Which albums turned you off from bands completely even if previous material was good?

Manowar - Warriors of the World Metallica - Load (Black Album was already bad, but not enough to completely alienate me) Queensryche - Y2K Deicide - Til Death Do Us Part (they won me back with In the Minds of Evil, though) Cannibal Corpse - Gore Obsessed Satyricon - Rebel Extravaganza Anathema -...

    Stranger in a Strange Land

The solo is pretty good, not question, but solos are not what define songs for me (with VERY few exceptions, like Megadeth's Tornado of Souls). The greatest solo can not turn a bad song into a good one, and the shittiest solo can not completely ruin a brilliant song.

Dance of Death: individual album judgement by yours truly

I thought I did read like 100 times on this forum how awesome this track is.

Dance of Death: individual album judgement by yours truly

9/10? Whats The Trooper then? 200/10? I don't care much for solos. They can be cool, but they don't define the quality of a song for me. If you refer to the guitar melodies in the intro: I admitted those were awesome. But the vocal lines of this track are generic and bland. Yes, they are 8/10...

Dance of Death: individual album judgement by yours truly

I mainly listen to Doom Metal, old school Death Metal, 80s Thrash and Crustpunk. Compared to those genres, DOD is pretty clean. I don't mean it in a bad way, I just say I wouldn't mind if it had a little more live sound. People complaining the album to be too muddy probably listen to...

Dance of Death: individual album judgement by yours truly

This one seems to be held in relatively high regard by younger fans. When it was released back in 2004, I did not expect too much and STILL was massively disappointed. At that time, it was the worst Maiden album so far for me, until they released The Final Frontier, which to this day is the far...

    Somewhere In Time: Album Discussion

Ranks #2 in my personal Maiden album ranking, only topped by SSOASS. An absolute masterpiece. The overall production is top notch, the solos are outstanding (and much better than their current ones), most of the songwriting is far, FAR above the usual standards of classical Heavy Metal. The...

    Stranger in a Strange Land

My least fave song of that album. I usually skip it, when I listen to SIT. It is the only song from that album that does nothing for me. I sometimes also skip Long Distance Runner, which is the other not so good song on SIT, but it is at least decent. Stranger is the only song here I would call...

    Sign of the Cross

Most of this track justifies a 10/10 rating. Riffs, melodies, vocals, lyrics. Awesome! Unfortunately I ended up with "only" a 7/10. What happened? Three reasons: 1) It is too long, especially as the opening spot. The 5:35 - 8:00 sections do not add much to the song and could have been left out...
