Janick's Gillan Strats has Hot Rails in it, so he was most likely aware of them for quite some time. Also, one of his White Strats that he used on the X-Factour had 3 hot rails in it as well, I think it was either 3-tone sunburst or the blue sunburst one that he had refinished during that time...
