    News 18th Studio Album discussion

I thought TFF almost carried on the run of excellence. But the Mission Edition video and some band interviews gave me concern that Compass Point Studios wasn't in the best shape. And H's comment about wanting different arrangements for some songs. They tried to recreate the 80s feel for the...

    The Problem with the X-Factor?

agreed - except Unbeliever is one of my highlights. amazed at how much better the CD remaster sounds to my original 1995 CD, so that helps as well. but overall, TXF is musically speaking one of Maiden's most important albums.

    News 18th Studio Album discussion

to be blunt, for me... - BNW - DOD - AMOLAD ....is the golden era of the studio work in the reunion era. They all have such energy and inventiveness, and they each feel fresh in their own ways. The band members were also aged only in their early 40s till their late 40s, and were still...

    News Burning Ambition Documentary

Please recall that the Early Days series never covered 1989 onwards - the series was axed before it got there. Because DVDs were no longer profitable after the 2010s. But also because Iron Maiden / Steve are singularly incapable of narrating - let alone reflecting on - the 1990s. I say that with...

    Metallica

Its a strange one... I like Metallica but the live experience was always 'meh'. I first saw them on St Anger at Earls Court, which is a bad venue and they were touring a terrible album. Then I saw the £5 Death Magnetic promo launch show at 02, which was better (but I had to attend on my own due...

    Metallica

I am now (quite randomly due to a resale ticket) going to that show as well. Only the 4th time seeing them after 2003, 2008 and 2017. High hopes, I’ve never really been blown away by them live before.

If Maiden played a sixth Blaze era song live with Bruce?

I agree, all five Blaze tunes sounded great post 1999, very natural too given that TXF and VXII set so much of the musical tone for modern maiden. I'd like to hear Virus (never gonna happen) or Lightning Strikes Twice (which is literally likelier than maiden playing it again!)

    RUN FOR YOUR LIVES 2026

I did also think that at the time. It was a short amount of time between the London film premiere nearer the start of May and opening night later in May, unless Dave/H/Bruce were already in Croatia and flew back?

    RUN FOR YOUR LIVES 2026

With you here except for the Apparition - yes, it sucks musically but I like the lyrics and their message. One of the few Maiden songs where the lyrics keep me coming back and not the music. More common its the other way round (eg From Here to Eternity - awful lyrics, nice solo!).

    RUN FOR YOUR LIVES 2026

I saw two shows in 2025, Birmingham (very hot!) and London Stadium. Loved them both and the crowd at West Ham genuinely made it feel like a homecoming. I really liked RFYL but I wasn't compelled to see more shows last year like earlier tours. What's different? If you are a casual fan, or...

    RUN FOR YOUR LIVES 2026

Fabulous performance - but my god, Bruce's belly! He's clearly loving life and good for him.

    RUN FOR YOUR LIVES 2026

Just my feelings as well in the transition from 2024 to 2025. The usual reasons (No Nicko, screens, set list from 40 years ago...). Plus the band reaching their 70s. More importantly, (and I posted this on the official forum recently), the main messages used by the band since 1999 are running...

    RUN FOR YOUR LIVES 2026

Sorry to hear that. It is a different phase for Maiden. No matter what we each feel about it, and no matter what they do next, it is the sunset phase. The last shows of Future Past (which I saw in Australia in 2024) closed a chapter that began in 1999. We are in a new chapter now and they still...

    RUN FOR YOUR LIVES 2026

Senjutsu is a maddening track. For nearly two minutes at the end it just loses steam, runs out of energy, and trails off like an unwelcome fart. This has to be one of Maiden's most lacklusture song endings. That 8.20 could have been closer to 6.30 right away without the terrible ending. It also...

Set list stats (reunion era - 1999 to 2022)

You are right, and I think it was a mix of things: - not doing any real history or hits tours until 1999 and 2003 (Real Live Tour was really 'FOTD part 2' with a few early classics) - being committed to 5, 6 or 7 news songs on each album tour - losing Bruce for five years

With pleasure! This is from the Virtual XI fan club convention, around the Brixton show I wasn't allowed to attend! I had to wait till Portsmouth towards the end of 1998 for my first show (my mum had come round to the idea by then...)

    News Burning Ambition Documentary

The Skunkworks haircut was the moment of truth. I remember in 1996, one of my non-metal female classmates said 'oooh, he looked really nice', after Bruce's TV appearance on Never Mind the Buzzcocks. Bearing in mind this was a 13 year pop fan who routinely mocked Maiden. I shouldn't mock it, I...

True! A sceptic may also point out the chap who said the line in the film probably wasn’t a fan / old enough to follow in 1995.
