GREATEST METAL ALBUM CUP - Winner: Iron Maiden - Seventh Son of a Seventh Son!

Neither of the first pair is my thing. The Manson song is well-crafted, catchy and interesting, but not my cup of tea. Power Trip worked until the yelling started. Not particularly original, but it strikes me as more honest.

GREATEST METAL ALBUM CUP - Winner: Iron Maiden - Seventh Son of a Seventh Son!

Don't you wish listening to the Maidenfans Greatest Metal Album Cup could be your job, so you had the time to do it properly? :) Sitting here on a quiet Sunday morning, this round got all the attention it needed. Others rounds I've rushed and some I've missed entirely. But I'm still thoroughly...

GREATEST METAL ALBUM CUP - Winner: Iron Maiden - Seventh Son of a Seventh Son!

Wheels within wheels in a spiral array, it's patterns so grand and complex/ Time after time we lose sight of the way, our causes can't see their effects ^^^ is an elite example of the kind of music I like best, a thoughtful, well-performed, hard-hitting and varied album that sustains from start...

GREATEST METAL ALBUM CUP - Winner: Iron Maiden - Seventh Son of a Seventh Son!

I think I liked this Primordial song more than other ones that have come up in the tourney, and my memory says the others weren't bad either. Again, I hear a great, sluggish beast heaving its bulk through a prehistoric swamp. I like it, but I think it would only work for me in small doses, as...

GREATEST METAL ALBUM CUP - Winner: Iron Maiden - Seventh Son of a Seventh Son!

Being an old fart, I am less familiar with Ghost than probably anyone reading this, so forgive me from stating the obvious, but this is the catchiest chunk of metal pop I have heard since Jon Bon Jovi was hanging out in Vancouver strip bars, or Kiss heard Beth calling. They are performing a...

GREATEST METAL ALBUM CUP - Winner: Iron Maiden - Seventh Son of a Seventh Son!

Was not expecting Angel City to do well with this audience. Karljant nailed their ethos: high-energy pub rock honed by conquering halls packed with obnoxious Aussie drunks with a relentless fist-pumping attack. What elevated them beyond was the crazed-eyes baritone of Doc Neeson croaking out...

GREATEST METAL ALBUM CUP - Winner: Iron Maiden - Seventh Son of a Seventh Son!

It'd weird how the definition of metal has changed since the days of Purple, Sabbath and (yes) Zep. Some bands expanded it, others refined it to a very specific pure form without much room for variation. I'm glad that this game has chosen a more open definition. Personally, I don't consider...

You're reading things into my post that aren't there; I have no dog in the "beer-can-head-smash-music" fight. Musically, the most notable aspect of Pantera is the lack of compromise. Lack of compromise should inspire strong feelings, depending on what side of the argument you stand.

@srfc I think I've come to the conclusion that your tastes overlap with mine more than any other voters on here. Loving the Lizzy love. And especially loving the fact we have converted @Saapanael. Lizzy guitar harmonies are among the best things in music. The Rainbow/Reputation showdown to me...

Pantera has a powerful groove but not much else. Headless Children is one of the revelations of this game for me. Easy win.

There are moments in the Borknagar song that I quite like and others not so much. System of a Down also tend to float in and out of my wheelhouse, but are generally a more interesting band, so they get my vote.

And the second match has another pair of McKindog staples. I love moments on Rainbow and like it very much overall. But Bad Reputation is a far superior album. It has some of Lizzy's best heavy progressive stuff like opium trail and the title track, along with Phil the romantic at his best...

GREATEST METAL ALBUM CUP - Winner: Iron Maiden - Seventh Son of a Seventh Son!

I believe the first match represents the first time in this game we've matched up two albums I know well. Bloated albums from legendary bands with lots of excellent material, but also moments where they bog down. Priest is a better band and Nostradamus has more good songs, and more overall depth.

Ah, my comment was less about the album and more about Death in general. Repeated exposure during this game has taught me that I respect them, but I don’t like them and I don’t really want to listen to them any more.

Big bunch of meh this round. Love Cornell and like Temple of the Dog but it just never resonates beyond fine. System of a Down is interesting but not for me. This game first elevated my respect for Death, then erased my tolerance for them. Yes, you’re so authentic, shut up already. I’d rather...

Listening to Divine Wings again as we speak. It is really good. From reading this forum for years, I’d say anything by AC/DC is an underdog to anything by Opeth, but that comes from someone not real familar with Opeth’s overall discography, and who knows AC/DC inside out. To the latter, Flick...
