I can't disagree with you more on your Krokus take. The reason it's better than a lot of what we've seen in this game is that it doesn't take itself seriously at all. It's fun.
Don't dismiss Deadwing without finding 12 minutes to give its signature track your full headphones-wrapped attention...
For Those About to Rock is a far better AC/DC album than Killing is a Megadeth album.
Im not complaining - on the contrary, it’s inherent to the game - but this is another example of a vote that is as much about band (taste) bias as any Dance of Death win.
Anyone else listening to Blue Oyster Cult's first album in nearly 20 years?
Bringing back Albert Bouchard (drummer, important songwriter during their heyday) to bash the cowbell in the video was an awesome touch.
The last matchup was interesting for me. Perfect Strangers holds two of my all-time favourite Purple songs (Back Door and the title track) where In Absentia carries Trains, which may not be metal, but is one of all-time favourite songs period.
I own both, but neither are albums where I can say...
Tears of the Dragon is one of my all-time favourite songs and after years of not liking Picasso so much, I've come around to appreciate the effort being made here to do something new without jumping on any of the bandwagons that were gathering speed in that era's music world. The Tribe of...
Vried charged across the speakers with some fire, quickly slipped into a cacophony, and then pulled itself back up. There is some interesting variation there under the bad vocals. Kreator is structured more in line with my tastes, other than the bad vocals. Thrash bad vocals over demonic bad...
I can see the appeal of the Meshuggah chugging, but there was not enough melody, texture or variation in that song. Not for me.
King Diamond, the singer, is silly, but the music is more my style.
I enjoyed Tony Martin and Skyclad enough in earlier rounds that I listened to each album in matchup one all the way through. I now have two new albums to add to my collection and no idea which one to vote for. They're both good and deep.
You know, if I was a really gifted guitar player making music strictly to please myself, it would probably sound a lot like Buckethead. It is really self-indulgent, but in a way that works for me.
The Hypocrisy song has some nice raw guitars and a good composition and melody, but it’s wasted by...
There are some elements of the music I like, but I just can’t take the lyrics and the vocal delivery of Dimmu Borgir seriously. Megadeth isn’t something I take seriously either, but it’s fun, not cringey. This draw continues to be a walk in the park for a B-list album.
I have lots of time for bands that meld punk and pop and metal elements and I enjoyed the Therapy? track.
Codex straddles that line thoroughly trampled by over-earnest power metallers and their songs seem way longer than they need to be. But they understand dynamics are a thing in music and...
