I'd agree.  It's especially worse that for the most part, performances are uniformly excellent (the difference between the best and worst starting goalies is not that significant compared to the best and worst forwards/defense of the league) and the position is so integrated into their team's...

Lindback has a sv% of 0.915.  That's above-average. I didn't call your argument intellectually lazy because I disagree; I've over and over declared that team performance is more important on the whole than individual goalie performance.  And I've never said Price has played poorly.  But I do...

Actually, Hiller's backups have had much better goal support than Hiller himself.  His backups combined have a winning record (16-12) despite the terrible stats.  And Rinne's main back-up, Anders Lindback, is far from "terrible". "Swap out Carey Price for a goalie who is even slightly worse...

But this is also true of Hiller, Quick, Lundqvist, Varlamov/Neuvirth, Rinne... it's hardly a unique situation.  I think there's somewhat of an increased spotlight on him because of his past performance and the fact that he's playing in Montréal, and as a result his play, which has been very...

I think it's the typical confusion of more games played = better goalie syndrome.  I think that any argument people are making focuses around him leading the league in wins, which is misleading imo.  His win % isn't as good compared to some of the other candidates.  And it's not like he has to...

One of the most overblown stories of the year: Carey Price's turnaround.  Yes, he's played very well this season.  Yes, he appears much more poised and mature.  But don't call him a viable Hart, let alone Vezina, candidate.

I don't think it's "pussifying" the game at all to punish a guy who deliberately goes at a guy's head with his elbow.  This wasn't incidental contact.  What with Cooke's history, 8+ games would be appropriate.

I agree with the ruling.  It's hard when someone gets hurt like this to try and step away from the emotions, but the NHL got this right, just like they did with the Cooke on Savard hit.  They made the right call the way the rules say.  In the latter case, they amended the rulebook afterward. ...

This is a good idea. I'm also trying to think of incidents where a player was gravely injured on a play that was a penalty that did not result in a suspension.  The only one that comes to mind immediately is Marian Hossa highsticking Bryan Berard.

I could live with that.  It would be nice to see some consistency, for sure.

Hitting from behind and interference aren't exactly the same kind of penalty. Matt Cooke jumping into Fyodor Tyutin's back while he's picking the puck off the boards is an inherently dangerous play.  Just because Tyutin wasn't injured, that kind of play deserves less supplemental discipline...

But there's no distinction between that area and the rest of the rink in the rulebook.  Hits like this happen 5-6 times every game. No suspension.  I doubt that it was intentional on Chara's behalf.  Furthermore, I don't believe the NHL should determine suspensions based on the length of the...

I was being facetious.  Lundqvist is a very good goalie, and his best season came when his team didn't make the playoffs.  The focus on goaltender wins is silly, because it is more an indicator of the strength of the team than the strength of the goalie.  Did Brodeur all of a sudden stop being a...

Unless he's facing Hasek...  :innocent: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JsiUJQVIV94 I repeat: Roy's stats aren't bad, especially considering the era in which he played.  But maybe this mythic "find a way to win" does not correspond to reality.  Roy's career playoff performance is great.  But...

To preface this, I'd like to see some sort of reference to this.  I've honestly never heard this before.  I thought that it was more typical to see less scoring later in the playoffs.  Interesting to see how gut reactions fair versus statistical analysis (which is basically what we're talking...

First of all, you're crazy.  Second of all, Messier is 2nd all-time in scoring. Third of all, you say championship teams make their own luck.  Focus on the latter.  Teams win championships, not players.  There's a reason Messier didn't make the playoffs for the last seven years of his career...

Do I have to bust out the statistics again? Hasek was better than the competition to a degree unheard of in the sport.  Brodeur might make my top 10.  He likely would not.

Howard played excellent, for a team that really suffered from injuries.  I would've pegged him for the Calder. As for Snow, I would've let Nabokov go.  At least give him a chance.  Sure it might've been smart business-wise with the injuries to goalies the Isles have suffered, at some point you...
