Yes totally agree, especially that he could have been an Andy Sneap like figure but it clearly didn’t happen. Agree with your other point, which is Roy Z had a great run - but that was some time ago, and maybe the universe lined up perfectly for him in the late 90s early 00s when Lady Luck was...

Hi GhostofCain, the secret is out! Yes sir that is me, I made the cut rather than the cutting room floor, very very proud indeed. I am looking forward to telling the story of my experience with the documentary crew and understandably cannot wait to watch it!

I would disagree, remember back to the late 90s, it took something special to modernise the classic metal sound back then. There is an overflow of that style now, but not back then, so credit to Roy Z for being able to do it in a musical climate that didn't favour that sound at all. He played...

Bruce can sell you toilet roll if he needs to... I learned that in 1999 when he started to over enthuse about the Ed Hunter PC game!

This is one of the keys to the mystery. TMP has six Dickinson/Z credits and they clearly tried to pick up the songwriting partnership that flourished from the 1990s till 2005. But in my view, TMP is something of a musical flop and missed my expectations for musical excellence by a very long way...

Which album do you prefer: The Book Of Souls or Senjutsu?

Almost a dead heat. Like the IM/Killers of the new era, two albums with very different personalities but destined to be bracketed together. Objectively, Senjutsu has better production, a far better album closer and some fantastic songs. Lost in a Lost World has really grown on me these last 4...

Those of you that have seen 15 times or more

I have seen around 50 shows now so I'll keep a tight list. Paris Bercy 1999 - unbelievable it was happening. Hammersmith Apollo 2005 - Early Days set, really intense show, closest to being in a time machine to the 80s! Madison Square Garden 2008 - Somewhere Back in Time set, classic venue...

Songs that never really worked well live

This question is a bit singer-dependent.... Murders in the Rue Morgue with Bruce on vocals, I just don't think he can nail the vocal line. Blaze clearly ran into trouble due to the tuning on many classic songs from the Bruce era.

Not the principle adhered to for the last few studio albums then! (Joking, I love them really o_O)

I agree with that characterisation and have a theory about TFF. The album is stellar and grows over time. First or superficial impressions however are created by the cartoony, IMO immature artwork and worsened by the comic book covers for the single art. The Satellite 15 intro tacked onto TFF...

The economics of it are bizarre for fans who do this but aren't very rich. They must work part of the year to generate savings they spend to go on tour and attend dozens of Maiden shows for weeks and months on end. As said above, the kind of fandom whereby Maiden become the primary focus of life...

    News 18th Studio Album discussion

I think the mood in 2018/19 was that legacy had really fired them up for more action and for a new album. That's what i recall of that time, especially since Brucewas really fired up by designing a lot of the show including setlist and theatrics.

    Bruce Dickinson

Yep, S/K a lot cheaper to run than either British Lion with its massive pub tours, or Dickinson solo with all its trimmings. But even small profit or break-even outcomes may need to somehow be subsidised for S/K and Bruce solo. I doubt either project generates anything like the merch sales that...

    Bruce Dickinson

Agreed with you about Bruce's high end corporate speaking potential, it is also a crowded space and Bruce may be charging huge prices. Regarding Smith/Kotzen and Bruce solo, their big cost outlay outside touring is studio time and record marketing. Both Bruce and H have recorded/recording two...

    Bruce Dickinson

I assume Bruce part subsidises his solo career from his own pocket? Unlikely it truly breaks even given the costs of touring. Clear that Harris and Smith must subsidise British Lion and S/K from their own pockets. I’d be surprised if I’m wrong. That’s what their Maiden millions can help with...

Make the calculation in cumulative album run time and you get a VERY different impression (believe me, I once did it on a spreadsheet)
